ARE YOU 65 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER?
Did you know that the Ontario government recently decided to publicly fund the Herpes Zoster (Shingles)
Vaccine? This means that the vaccine is now FREE for people between 65 and 70 years of age.
Shingles can cause a blistering rash that usually affects one side of the body or face.
Some individuals may experience severe long-term pain after the shingles rash has disappeared, as well as other complications, including skin infections and scarring, which can interfere
with normal day-to-day activities.
If you are 65 or older you also qualify for the Pneu-p-23 (Pneumonia) Vaccine.
Please call Brittany Martin at the Health Centre to discuss eligibility and book and appointment
at 613-625-2259.

WE’RE GOINGTO THE
LITTLE NHL 2017!
The Little Native Hockey League (LNHL) tournament has grown to be the largest First Nations organized hockey tournament in Ontario, drawing more than 6,500 First Nation people from all over Ontario. The LNHL will be hosting their 46th Annual tournament in the City of Mississauga on March 13-16, 2017. Overall, there are 201 teams registered and 16 teams in the Bantam division where the Algonquin Jr. T-Birds will be playing.
We are extremely excited to announce that we will be returning to this tournament. The parents in the community have come together to join their children to make a Bantam team. Dave Commanda and Cheyenne Two Axe have volunteered to coach our team, and work alongside with Amanda Two Axe Kohoko, Trainer and Doug Kutschke who is Team Manager. We have 15 players committed to the team.
The team will be fundraising from now until our departure on March 12, 2017. We will be organizing a fundraiser dance at the Makwa Center, a skate toll and selling many 50/50 tickets. Please come out and support this little community teams’ fundraising initiatives.
For any fans who wish to attend the LNHL tournament and stay close to us, the team will be staying at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel and Suites.
It is our goal to make our community proud of this team and our children while we are participating in the LNHL tournament. Our first game will be posted when we are advised. If you are interested in keeping up with all the action, go to our Facebook page: Algonquin JR T-Birds Followers. We will keep all actions updated on there.
The players are:Noah Commanda, Kruz Kohoko, Cole Dumoulin,
Keysha Two-Axe McMullin, Eve Schroeder, Jace Lebrun,Seth Schroeder, Tye Meness, Logan Roesler,
Aidan Kutschke, Justus Wilcox, Jayden Lavalley,Breven Mandamin, Reece Napish,

RINK SURFACE - PLEASE BE CAREFUL!
With much thanks to our Pikwakanagan Fire Department for flooding, and to Charles Caron for plowing services, to Ryan Peters for many hours of shovelling, and to any and all volunteers who come out maybe when no one is around we thank you….we want to caution all community members who are using the outdoor rink for skating, there are areas of the rink that are quite uneven yet and we hope with additional floods will begin to even out!As you may or may not be aware an outdoor rink is huge task to undertake, weather plays the biggest role in establishing a good skateable surface and we sure have been battling to get a good surface on the rink for all to use! We are quite limited at the moment with appropriate machinery to establish a good smooth surface, and this is something we are working on for the future for our outdoor rink!We appreciate volunteers to take initiative to help out when you can, and more importantly we appreciate your understanding, we are trying our very best to get a safe skating surface established! We are hoping to post skating and lighting schedule next week
IMPORTANT NOTE!
PARENTS ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR CHILD/CHILDREN WHO ARE USING THE RINK, IT IS NOT A SUPERVISED AREA SO PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD/CHILDREN ARE PROPERLY EQUIPPED TO BE ON THE ICE AT ALL TIMES!
With thanks,Kerry Andrews, Manager, Sports & Recreation
