Ceja Vineyards, a family-owned winery and brewery has a rich history of creating premium wines. Armando Ceja, founder of Ceja Vineyards and his family from Sonoma Valley, California found a need for a new multi-use facility at their vineyard for production to compliment existing structures. He called upon family friend Steve Lanning from Steve Lanning Construction Inc. to provide this facility which was respectively named the “Armando Ceja & Family Project”.

Over the past few years the project has consisted of three phases. Phase 1 of the project took place in 1999 where the first Garco building was erected at the vineyard and has now been remodeled and turned into a micro-brewery. Phase 2 consists of a 16,000 square foot Winery Production Building & Barrel Storage area with an additional 3,000 square foot mechanical room and workshop. Phase 3 is an 18,000 square foot building which houses the Wineries tasting room, meeting rooms and numerous offices. After extensive research on building types, the family chose a 4” insulated standing seam panel for the roof and a 4” textured insulated panel on the walls of each building for its economic value and thermal properties which are needed in the production of premium wine and beers.

Additional features of the property include a production facility, a barrel room, a storage room for case goods, a tank room for the micro-brewery and a new tasting salon and lounge where patrons can stop by and enjoy a remarkable glass of wine.

2014 Builder Meeting • Scottsdale, Arizona

BUILDING FORTHE FUTUREBUILDING FORTHE FUTURE

Over 105 Garco Builders, Vendors, NCI Guests and Garco staff gathered at the beautiful Fairmont

Scottsdale Princess resort for the 2014 Garco Builder Meeting in sunny Scottsdale, Arizona. The theme of the event was “Building for the Future” which was hosted by emcee Mike Carbone and his talented production team.

Garco’s General Manager, David Zabinski, opened the Friday morning meeting. David spoke on the many changes at Garco in the past few years, pointing out that Garco has new products, new services and a new leadership team with a strong commitment to providing our builders with quality service and products. He noted that, while “Building for the Future” was the theme of our meeting, it also defines Garco’s path to building a more robust, service-oriented company with a strong emphasis on Quality Management. David said, “It is something Garco is committed to and I am proud to be a part of”.

We had a great line-up of speakers on Friday including Garco’s own Frank Fuca and Cody Carlson. Jeremy Ruby spoke about XDS and Jeremy Gross explained some features of TEKLA software. Presentations were also heard by NCI guests including Arlene Campos describing the features of the new GarcoExpress program and covering warranties was Mike Bennett.

Many builders were acknowledged and applauded as they were presented the Garco Milestone Awards for Years of Representation, Sales Achievement (Million Dollar Club), Gold

Club for Sales Leadership and Platinum Club for Sales Leadership. All of these awards built up to the President’s Award for the top builder in dollar volume for both 2012 & 2013, going to Loadpath Industrial (2012) and Sure Steel, Inc. (2013).

After the Awards Presentation and a delicious dinner, a fun-filled night of dancing followed. To add to the fun, there was a photo area in the foyer complete with crazy costumes and props for guests to enjoy. Everyone received their photos that evening to be able to take home. Since the Awards Gala happened to fall on Valentine’s Day, the tables were decorated in red and white and every lady was greeted at the door with a long-stemmed red rose and presented with a personalized Valentine.

On Saturday, the sessions included NCI Guest speakers plus Steve McChesney & Mitch Moncur speaking on Order Clarity. The group did a “Build It” exercise where the builders broke up into groups with each group receiving instructions and parts to build a forklift out of Lego pieces. What no one knew was that only one group had everything they needed to finish the project correctly. In the end, the groups realized the importance of getting all the information correctly to insure the end product was what they wanted and needed.

This event really had it all - great weather, lots of laughs, informational sessions, a beautiful site and tremendous food. But it’s no secret that our builders, vendors, NCI guests and Garco staff were what made this meeting incredible. Thank you to everyone who attended this memorable event, and we look forward to seeing you all at our next Garco Builder Meeting.

Sharing in the continued success of our meeting were our

Estimating & Project Management Update

Garco AnnouncementsRetirements

Pat McElwain – Customer ServicePat started with Garco in August 1977; and when he retired at the end of January, there was only one other person still working for the company who had more seniority. Much of Pat’s career was spent in drafting and detailing, where he rose to the level of Drafting Manager. Since 2006, he’s been responsible for Garco’s product technology services. Pat and his wife Dolly took off for the Southwest in their camper just a week after his retirement. We received a postcard from him recently that detailed some of their adventures to date (hiking, biking and kayaking) and closed with “I kinda like this retirement thing . . . what day is it again???”

Ruth Harris – AccountingRuth transferred to Spokane from NCI’s corporate office and served as Garco’s Accounting Manager from 2011 until her retirement in February. She had been to Spokane a couple of times while performing internal audits and liked the area, so on one of her trips, she brought her husband along. When an opening was announced at Garco, Ruth applied and Harold joined her a few months later following the sale of their Houston home. In Ruth’s brief period of retirement, she’s already visited San Diego, has a trip to Houston scheduled and then she and Harold are off to Hawaii. As she remarked in a recent email, “It’s amazing how busy retirement can be!”

Employee Years of ServiceEach quarter, Garco recognizes employee years of service in 10 year increments. In the months of April, May and June the Garco employees who are celebrating anniversary milestones include:• Myron Frear - 40 Years• Jeff Conrad - 20 Years• Karl Stranberg - 20 Years• Nicholas Ficca - 10 Years• Thomas Bocook - 10 Years• George Moore - 10 Years• LD Webb - 10 Years• Steve McChesney - 10 Years

Thank you all for your loyal service and congratulations on reaching these milestones.

New FacesGarco’s new Accounting Manager, Ike Zwiesler, grew up in Central Washington and earned a BA in Business with an accounting emphasis from Washington State University. Before his move to

Garco, he served as controller for a local on-line retailer specializing in recreational equipment. Ike and his wife Rochelle are the parents of 10-year-old Luke and 8-year-old Lily and Rochelle teaches 3rd grade at a local elementary school. The family enjoys a variety of sports and outdoor activities; and all four ran in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on April 27th and Spokane’s annual Lilac Bloomsday Run the following weekend.

BirthsOn March 31, 2014, Ilya (Quality Control) and Dina Ekkert were thrilled to welcome baby boy Jayden Eli Ekkert weighing 9 lbs 1 oz.

On April 5, 2014, Austin Angel (Cold Form Helper) & Courtney Mallak baby girl Raegan Lee Angel was born weighing 7 lbs 11 oz.

On May 2, 2014, Bryon (Estimator) and Sara Talley welcomed a baby boy, Reece Steven Talley. Reece weighing 9 lbs 8oz

Congratulations!

2014 Iron Man Poker RunMike Berry, Business Development Manager for Garco’s Heavy Industrial Group, participated in the Iron Man Poker Run Series off-road motorcycle event on Saturday, April 5 with Ken Wortman, owner/manager of Specialty Machine Works Ltd, Penticton, BC. The Iron Man Poker Run, a 40 mile cross-country ride, was held in conjunction with the 44th annual Stump Jumpers Spring Desert 100 event near Odessa, Washington.

Both Ken and Mike completed the run, with Ken finishing noticeably earlier than Mike. The weather was perfect, the dust less so.

Ken is an experienced off-road motorcycle enthusiast who completed the Baja 1000 race in 2013.

Specialty Machine Works Ltd , an authorized Garco builder, offers a full service fabrication and machine shop along with steel building sales and erection for the forestry, mining, oil/gas and construction industries.

Specialty Machine Works recently completed the sale and erection of two Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) Buildings furnished by Garco for West Fraser biomass generation/electrical production projects in British Columbia.

West Fraser, headquartered in Vancouver, BC, is a leading North American integrated wood products company that operates mills in western Canada and the southeastern USA.

Estimating and Project Management are working together and focusing on order clarity to do a quality job of ensuring that each project flows smoothly through engineering, drafting and fabrication and have a complete and accurate project delivered when requested. To achieve this, Estimating collects

the crucial information at the time of the quote and pursues all outstanding information before the estimate becomes an order. At the time of order, Project Management works with Estimating to

go through the project in its entirety to ensure an accurate order is written and handed to engineering to proceed. The time frame that it takes to complete an order is dependent upon the complexity of the job and having complete information provided at the time of the order. With more coordination effort up front between the builder and estimating/ project management departments, we have justified more savings in time and costs for both the builder and Garco in the procurement of the project. As are result, we are seeing positive outcomes due to this process.

Garco Safety Update • Internal Traffic Control Plan (ITCP)

Training Seminars • Don’t Miss Out

It’s no secret that the industrial job-site is a dangerous environment. Add the element of motor vehicle traffic and mobile construction equipment; and the work site becomes even more treacherous.

According to the Construction Safety Council (2008), approximately 12 billion vehicle miles occur in active work zones and more than 40,000 people are injured as a result of work zone vehicular incidents. Developing and enforcing an Internal Traffic Control Plan (ITCP) can greatly reduce vehicular/pedestrian incidences– Reference OSHA 29 CFR 1926

What is an ITCP?An ITCP is a written plan that coordinates the flow of foot and vehicular traffic occurring in close proximity to each other within the work site.

What does it do?The purpose of a designed worksite ITCP is to:

• Provide clear direction for all vehicle traffic (Both domestic and off-site vendors).

• Separates and improves safety for vehicular and pedestrian flow utilizing temporary traffic control devices.

How do we develop and implement an ITCP?Typically the site safety officer or member(s) of the contractor’s staff will develop the ITCP.Copies of the ITCP should be distributed to all personnel on the project including outside contractors and inspectors. The safety officer should regularly update the plan and redistribute to staff and review the plan with workers daily at toolbox meetings and safety talks.
