Family and Friends Day Be sure to invite your family and friends to 10:00AM Mass on October 14th. This is a fun day for parishioners to see some of their past parishioners and grown children. It is also a nice time to meet some new people who might be interested in joining All Saints.

Baskets for Trivia Night We are always looking for clever ideas for our Trivia Night baskets. We ask people to put a basket together with a particular theme. These baskets will be raffled off at the trivia night. Plan a theme, go shopping, and drop off your finished basket at the rectory the week before

Trivia Night. Past themes have been: sports, tea time, bath products, children’s games, wine, movie night...

All Saints Day Potluck Dinner Friendly Reminder: soon we will be asking all to sign-up for our potluck dinner. Maybe you have a new casserole you have been wanting to try, or that perfect dish that is always a suc-cess. Plan on bringing an entre, vegetable dish or salad. Des-sert will be provided. Sign-up sheets will be coming soon.

Make a Difference Day University City Make A Difference Day is Saturday, Oct. 27.

All Saints has one house. The day begins with a Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes at 8:00 and the workday is from 9:00-noon. It is followed by a luncheon with volun-teers and homeowners at the Heman Park Community Center. Signups are in the back of church.

When the rich young man in this week’s Gospel asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life, the answer is simply “nothing.” Or to put it another way, “You don’t have to do anything to earn it. Simply do not let anything get in the way. Don’t kill, or commit adultery, or steal, or lie, or defraud, or any such things that tend to muddy the focus of our lives.” Beyond that it seems we don’t have to do anything. But, the young man protests, he has avoided all these things. And so the reply Jesus then offers is, in effect, don’t let your riches get in the way either. Easier said than done, and more difficult than imagined. More difficult than threading a needle with camel hair when the hair is still on the camel; more difficult than getting a camel inside your house, whether through your pet door or your back door or maybe even your garage door. Camels don’t shrink. Neither does our hold on riches. Both tend to get in the way. So what does one then do, we ask. Curious—that was the same response in Jesus’ day as well. And over the centuries believ-ers have sought ways to keep wealth in perspective, or at least some things that might help do so. Yet it’s all about trying to make sure that as little as possible gets in the way of finding God among the mishmash of life.
