On Tuesday millions of Americans will go to the polls to cast ballots for President and other public offices. But according to media reports more than 75 million people have already cast ballots either by mail or in person. I will be among those who will be relieved that this over extended political contest will come to an end. We are the only country in the world that engage in political battles for the better part of two years. In most others, the campaigns get underway a few months in advance at most. I think it would be fair to observe that this campaign season has brought with it a great deal of division. One side blames the other for this and there seems to be no end to finger pointing and vitriol. Partisans all insist that their opponents are destroying America and they are simply arguing on behalf of the truth. We used to be able to rely on the media for objective facts upon which we could base our voting decisions. Alas, that seems to be the case no more. Accusations of “fake news” resound as each “side” insists that they only tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Among Catholics are those who have a deep conviction (or strong opinion) that there is only one candidate for whom a faithful member of the church could cast a ballot. They fail to make an important distinction between doctrinal teachings and how they may be applied in legislative bodies and the public square. Clergy are forbidden by the church to endorse specific candidates. But we are able to advise Catholics to examine carefully the platforms of each candidate, to assess them with their consciences, and then cast a ballot accordingly. God Save the USA!

NOVEMBER IS THE
THE MONTH OF ALL SOULS
THE FEAST OF ALL SAINTS/SOULS
NOVEMBER 1ST & 2ND
In EVERY Mass we commend to God all the souls of the faithful departed. Some of these lesser known souls are already living among the saints, while others are experiencing further purification so they will be prepared to see God face to face when Christ comes again in all his glory. Keep in mind that any souls who may be in purgatory are destined for heaven and we Catholics believe that we can very much assist them through our constant prayers for God’s mercy.
THE BOOK OF THE NAMES OF THE DEAD will be
placed close to the altar throughout the month of November. We will happily add whatever new names you designated on the special All Souls envelopes.
If you wish to have one or more of your loved ones remembered in a specific Mass, be sure to circle those names on the All Souls envelope. If you wish, you may make the customary Mass offering of $10.
PICTURES OF THE DECEASED
We have many pictures of loved ones which you have entrusted to our care. If you have any other pictures you would like displayed, please bring them as soon as you can and place them in the box on the table in the commons. Indicate their name and their relationship to you so that we can get your pictures back to you. They will be displayed throughout November as a visible sign of our communion with all who have gone before us in the hope of rising again.

YDisciple is Off to a Good Start…
By the Grace of God and support of parents, we had 46 teens (in person and virtually) join the new YDisciple adventure with our leaders and volunteers. The session was filled with excitement and joy. Leaders asked teens “how it felt to be back as a group?” Below are some of the teen’s comments.

Many people, perhaps even most, give little or no thought to vital decisions that need to be made when the time for us to leave this world approaches. Advance care planning is a positive thing to do. The most essential thing any one person can do is to speak to your family, your loved ones, your doctors, and trusted clergy members regarding matters related to the time of our death. Make sure they know your desire to be faithful to the teachings of the Church. As difficult as talking about death may be, we should be having these conversations while we are young and healthy to most effectively plan for the time when we are not. Catholic funeral rites are a rich part of Catholic Tradition and offer many benefits for those who have passed as well as for their loved ones. We plan for all the important moments of our lives: marriage, buying a home, retirement…planning for the many decisions that occur near the end of life is no different. Whether someone is facing an acute illness, a long-term chronic illness or a terminal illness, advance care planning can help alleviate unnecessary suffering, improve quality of life and provide better understanding of the decision-making challenges facing the individual and his or her caregivers. Advance care planning is about doing what you can do to ensure that health care treatment and funeral arrangements are consistent with your wishes and preferences should you be unable to make your own decisions or speak for yourself. The speakers at the End of Life Presentation will look at some of these important issues from the Catholic perspective.
Sincere Condolences
We extend our deepest sympathy to Gloria Mastalir and her children, Matt & Amanda on the occasion of the passing of their husband and father, JOHN MASTALIR. The Mastalirs were very involved in parish life including in the K of C. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday at 11am. A viewing will begin at 10:30am in the Commons.

Most of these individuals are longtime members of our parish. Others are Catholics residing in long term care facilities within our parish boundaries to whom we bring Holy Communion.
Pray for Friends and
Family Who Are Very Ill
Intercessory prayers can be very helpful not only for those who are ill but for those who are caring for them. While we are all free to offer prayers for any intention, this particular prayer list is intended for those who have suffered a serious injury or who have fallen very ill. Our prayers can help to get them back on course.
