Let Us Go Then

From Atlanta to Minneapolis, Michigan to California, shovels are in the ground, and steel is rising skyward. The refrain of construction cranes projecting out of the sports and entertainment landscape

is vast, and it doesn’t appear as if the wrecking ball will swing in the other direction any time soon. Yes, we are an industry currently flush with facility construction and renovations of all sizes. As I travel

the country to speak with the architects and team executives imagining what’s possible for public assembly spaces, I see style and substance in new billion-dollar stadia as well as form and function in minor makeovers that net significant returns. I see entire city districts as well as new ballpark neighborhoods. I see it in professional sports. I see it on college campuses. It’s everywhere.

It is the result of big money coupled with our community’s big ideas, ideas that advance engineering and construction processes, that grow fan experience and return on investment in parallel, that combine data and instinct to conceive environments for Boomers and Millennials, for brands and for fans.

Whether designing on a dime or a billion-dollar bill, the opportunities that exist for us to create that which did not exist before are boundless. I do not believe hyperbole is getting the best of me when I ask, has there ever been a more exciting time to be a part of the venue marketplace?

This year’s Sports Venue Design & Build Forum is a celebration of our progress and our pipeline into the future. On June 26th – 28th in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the ALSD is presenting the best of a long list of best practices from new builds, recent renovations, and those projects

that are coming online soon, and not just from the premium levels. The Super Sessions, Innovation Labs, and Breakout Sessions included in the following pages highlight

all of the accessories of modern venue development. From master planning to millwork, to more efficient loading areas, air quality innovations, durable materials, technology infrastructure, and even movable toilets! From the shiny bells and whistles to the sausage making behind the scenes, we’ve got you covered.

So let us go then to Pittsburgh this summer to celebrate our industry-wide achievements, mingle with the decision makers who are making these achievements happen, and take back home with us the products, services, and blueprints for what will be the next generation of latest and greatest.

We look forward to celebrating with you in the Steel City.

SUPER SESSIONS

At this year’s Super Sessions, we’re bringing in the real decision makers, the team leaders with their fingers directly on the pulse of their current construction projects. So whether you’re an architect, general contractor, owner’s representative, or team executive, all will benefit from listening to and networking with the top of the sports business pyramid.

These power panels with adhere to a Q&A format with minimal PowerPoint. Our moderators will be carefully selected and charged with asking substantive questions that deliver the thought-provoking answers that progress an industry dialogue forward.

The New BuildsDiscover the cutting-edge new builds of today and tomorrow from the minds of the chief executives and architects who imagined them. The signature design elements from all levels of these venues will be presented, as will the methods to the mad-ness and the expected future returns.

The Entertainment DistrictsIs there a hotter trend in sports business than the entertain-ment district? In today’s economy, political arena, and environ-ment of public-private partnership, it is essential to not only plan a facility, but also a neighborhood around it. Peel back all the revenue layers of mixed-use development, and learn to design a profitable environment for all lifestyles.

The Grand RenovationsThe expectations of paying customers are demanding across all sectors in the modern world. In the sports industry, if your venue is obsolete, then it is irrelevant. Learn the renovation realities of the construction timeline to reinvent your existing building into one as beautiful and profitable as the new builds.

Design to the MarketRecent years have witnessed an evolu-tion in premium seating product types. Nowadays, venues large and small must design multiple product offerings and volumes to meet the needs of multiple company sizes and price thresholds. Discover how to accurately analyze your market to determine the most cost-effective product mix in a premium seating segment that is constantly changing.

Food and Beverage DriversThe dining experience at a sports or entertainment event can be the largest contributor to a guest’s overall experi-ence. And it’s not just about the food anymore. An F&B experience must now also be a visual experience with open, showcase kitchens and concessions where food with a hometown presence is prepared in front of guests while culinary teams interact with them.

The Ideal Concourse Creating the perfect layout for your venue is a science. Learn the behav-ioral tendencies and analytics that best determine the quantities and locations for points of sale and engagement on your concourses. These elements include concessions, retail, wayfinding, areas activated by corporate partners, as well as mobile engagement technology, such as beacons.
