Altera’s Dynamic Paintings and Sequential Art

Dance and music are forms of art related to movement; painting, on the other hand, can only suggest it.Nearly 100 years ago, this limitation was overcome by the use of new technologies, when German abstractfilm pioneers created “choreographies” from shapes, lines, and colors – not by chance related to modernistworks by Kandinsky, Braque, and Klee.

Since 2003, Altera creates "dynamic paintings" in digital media, developing the use of simple lines and shapesto delimit spaces, which are filled with complex multi-layered natural dynamics. The movement is driven bycontemporary instrumental music, created by the group specifically for each work. We are currently developinga project based on water dynamics that has, by now, three different audiovisual works: Refluir, Rheotaxis andOutflow.

As the visuals are extremely rich, details can be better perceived in a static form. Fine art prints generatedfrom the audiovisual works, compose a Sequential Art form that brings to the viewer the nuances and detailsof the video work frozen in time, enriching and expanding the interpretation of the "dynamic paintings."

Our intention is to immerse the viewer in the abstract images, creating a unique sensorial experience

About Altera’s Sequential Art

All images are part of a sequence comprised by two or more prints.Every image in a sequence is printed individually, allowing for differentframing and composition on the wall.

Each sequence is a limited edition, Fine Art printed with archivalpigments in Canson Baryta Photographique and Canson Rag Photo-graphique.

Each print includes a 0.80” white border to allow for future mattingand framing. All prints are unframed, signed and numbered. ACertificate of Authenticity is provided with each sequence.

When purchasing a sequence, the buyer gets a Blu Ray DVD of thevideo work from which the Fine art prints derive.

is about water motion comprising three visual levels: thereflection (images from objects that are over the water), the refraction(from objects on the river bed) and the water surface (altered by theriver bottom conformation). The dense multilayered imagery revealsthe richness of shapes and colors created by natural processes.
