Alterra was formed in 2002 and a new fruit and vegetable processing factory opened in Giannitsa, Pella on a huge 60,000 m2 site in 2005.

The owner, Theo Rousopoulos, had

several years’ experience of processing

frozen fruit and vegetables and the new

factory was designed and built by him

to the highest technical standards.

Since then, the well rounded and

experienced Alterra management team

has grown the company’s annual

production to over 15,000 tons per

year, with addit ional expansion planned

for 2013.

In July 2013 Lamex Food Group

acquired a Joint Venture stake in

Alterra. Lamex is one of the world's

largest privately owned importers and

exporters of frozen and chil led foods,

with 18 off ices and annual sales in

excess of US$ 1.25 bi l l ion. Under the

new joint venture Lamex Agrifoods, a

wholly owned subsidiary of Lamex Food

Group, provides f inancial support and

acts in partnership with Alterra on

worldwide sales and logistics.

Alterra and Lamex have enjoyed a close

relationship for several years, but the

addit ion of Lamex’s f inancial strength,

supported by their sales, logistics and

technical ski l ls in frozen fruit adds a

new dimension for the future of the

company.

Alterra’s newly built plant is located in the centre of Macedonia, in the city of Giannitsa and produce arrives daily in season from the local region.

Raw material is washed, processed and quick frozen before being graded to

customer specif ications. Quality standards are set high and the plant benefits from

a variety of accreditations, including BRC, I FS, I SO 22000 and ISO 9001.

Products are offered to both the institutional (yoghurt, ice cream, jam, bakery and

desserts) and retai l sectors and Alterra prides itself on delivering the highest

quality and the highest specif ications. Sales are made within the local Greek

market and exports delivered al l over the world.

Alterra employs 40 permanent staff and over 400 seasonal staff, with capacity

over 15,000 tons annually. New specif ications are being introduced every

year and capacity is expected to grow to 20,000 tons by 2015.
