The old vine stock that yielded this wine is located next to a s tretch of higherground on a meander of the Ebro river, which overlooks our vin eyards inHaro, the capital of the Rioja Alta. A place known as Alto de la Caseta thatconstitutes the best and purest essence of Viña Pomal. On thi s locationstands a humble shack where the tools for tilling the soil hav e always beenkept.
The 2012 harvest took place the 1st ofOctober. All unbalanced grape buncheswere discarded. Only the healthiestbunches with whole ripe berries weredeposited in cases and entered thewinery’s reception patio where theyunderwent a second selection on themanual selection table.
VINTAGE CHARACTERISTICS:This vintage was marked by the incidenceof drought. Low rainfall figures starting inthe winter marked the development of theentire growing cycle. Our vineyards inHaro benefited from the cooler climate andsuffered the impact of the drought lessseverely than other areas.
Marked water stress during the monthsprior to harvest led to lower yields thanusual. The decision on the picking datewas crucial in ensuring a qualityTempranillo in Alto de la Caseta vineyard.2012 provided a wine of great structureand much fruit, with a great potential forbarrel ageing to finish smoothing out.
