A Message from Our President I recently heard an outstanding performance of Joseph Haydn’s MISSA IN ANGUSTIIS (Lord Nelson Mass) at Roswell Presbyterian Church, presented by their Choir, Orchestra, and four guest soloists. Then again, The Georgia Festival Chorus sang “Kyrie Eleison” from the same Mass, Saturday evening, October 10th at The Schwartz Center at Emory. I mention this because of the great love that Haydn had for our beloved Mozart.

“Despite all the success that came to Haydn in the last two decades of his life…the wealth, the undiminished artistic growth, the greatest fame of any musician in Europe; he never got over the death of Mozart, and was said to have burst into tears whenever he saw Mozart’s son. But one will look in

vain for any personal grief in his music. Like Moses, he could look over into that Promised Land of romantic personal expression, but could never quite go there. The Lord Nelson Mass owes much to Mozart, but more to Handel, and, perhaps ironically, even better anticipates Beethoven”

I mention Haydn for another reason: George Lucktenberg will be performing an All Haydn Program, (FREE), on his replica of Mozart’s Piano, Sunday afternoon, November 15th at 3:00 o’clock, at Reinhardt College, 7300 Reinhardt Circle, in Waleska, 30183. This concert will include a flute, violin, cello and soprano. I am hoping that several of our Pro-Mozart family will be able to attend. Call me at 404-667-4700 for information about car-pooling, etc.

PLEASE, join us November 8th for the first concert of our new season, (3:00 pm), featuring Anthony Pulgram, Tenor, accompanied by William Ransom, Piano. Let’s give Anthony a HUGE WELCOME HOME reception, with a “full house” attendance at Holy Innocents’. As you know, Anthony is an Atlanta Native and one of our past Scholarship Winners. He has performed in Opera Houses throughout the United States and Europe. YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS HIS PERFORMANCE! I am eager to see you there!
