Washington D.C. Law Office

This Washignton D.C. based law firm insisted upon sustainable materials, fixtures and prac-tices to be used in the renovated interior. Focal vegetation walls in key locations provide a feeling of openess to the outdoors in addition to filtering the air. The client wanted daylight in as many spaces as possible as well as lighting controls to monitor the light and energy output.

The design solutions and space planning presented promote efficient workflow and circulation for the staff. Pops of color, warmth present through wood tones, and clean lines accentuate the architecture of the building and the firm's brand. Noise controlling acoustics

are used throughout the design from wall to ceiling material applications.

Inova Fairfax Hospital Birthing Center

The design solution for this birthing center provides a safe and smooth birthing experience for all those in the center. The furnishings and materials throughout the building consists of

slip-resistant flooring, rounded edges, non-porous materials, daylight, additional wall insulation, and acoustical ceiling tiles. The integration of state-of-the-art technology supports

the efficiency of the nursing staff and the security of the patients. Indoor air quality and ventilation is addressed through individual thermal controls and operable windows. The

existing form of the building contains space within a space. This spatial relationship as well as adjacent spaces is used to create order throughout the building placing certain rooms next to each other for better staff efficiency. A centralized nurse’s station is the nuclear center of the unit with supporting rooms around it. The inspiration of the curvature of the female form,

specifically the womb, is used to explore curvilinear shapes of spaces.

Danish Embassy’s Creative Christmas

This collaborative project was designed and promoted by Photojournalism, Exhibition and Interior Design students for the Danish Embassy’s Creative Christmas party. Graphic identity,

social media, survey and drafting documentation for the event were managed by the students. The theme “Water Knows No Borders” transformed the Ambassador’s residence for

a week in December. The installation showcased Denmark’s inspiring relationship with water, including recent accomplishments and water resource management. Additionally, guests experienced the spirit of Christmas celebrated through designs that evoke hygge, merriment, togetherness, and elegance. To accompany Creative Christmas the Corcoran School of Art + Design hosted a symposium on world water issues, including Denmark’s and Washington D.C.’s water cultures and current water technologies. Each of these topics were

also reflected in the installation.

Sketching is a central part of my design process. My thoughts are put onto paper quickly and I can show clients what I am thinking in an efficient manner. I like to render drawings

digitally, but occassionally I will render by hand with colored pencils and markers. I layer specific project renderings with Photoshop and then finish the drawing by hand. Hand

rendering is a wonderful relaxation tool.

With the rise in natural and man-made disasters, those affected are prone to develop mental anxiety and stress due to their experiences. The militarized operational systems for prepara-tion of disaster relief shelters must address the emotional health and lack of privacy amongst

shelter occupants. By addressing the constraints of the “normal” school environment, an improved time-based strategy for the crisis environment can be implemented. The design

addresses issues of privacy, communication, storage, and safety as well as improves both the emergency and normal routines of the school site. The quick, easy to assemble and

efficient components can be integrated into both types of environments. A sense of place, well-being, domesticity and peace of mind can be established in the various environments.
