Acronyms are a fun way to remember Bible truths. I’ve shared some of them over the years but have never brought several into one newsletter. I hope their simplicity gives us something to think about.

The other day I went to the grocery store to buy a few things and picked up a handheld basket. I partially filled the basket with what I believed to be essentials and then headed to the cashier line. Would you believe that I spent a hundred dollars on what I thought to be a rather small amount of groceries? The truth is that the world is becoming more and more expensive. The cost of everything it seems is rising. Thinking about the cost, I am reminded of a quote from the great Martin Luther. Martin Luther once said in regards to Christianity that “A religion that gives nothing, costs nothing, and suffers nothing, is worth nothing.”

Martin Luther it seems understood thatChristianity is different than many ofthe other world religions. Christiansunderstand that the price that was paidfor their salvation is invaluable. Look-ing at Jesus one can see that Christgave it all and suffered upon the crossso that we might be saved. The fact is that each Christian deserves eternal punishment in Hell. Nothing we can do merits us worthy before God. We are only worthy to receive the gift of eternal life because of what Christ has done.

Knowing the great and expensive price that Christ paidfor our salvation should motivate us to serve Him more 1

1In the old Roman calendar, there were only ten months in the year. March was the first month and December was the last. January and February were winter, a cold spot between each year. We know March now as the 3rd month, a month in which we often expect more and stronger winds. This is why we schedule our kids’ Kite Day for March. March is also the first month of our new Sunday school quarter. There are several methods that can be used to study God’s Word.

If you visit our various classes, you’ll find the method that is most meaningful to you. Some will begin a new study on the book of Matthew, and some will be enjoying specially selected topical studies. We have classes for everyone, from infant to our seniors. We wholeheartedly invite you, if you’ve been missing out, to come on in and visit a different class each week until you find the one that’s for you! See you Sunday!

Romans 10:17 -- " . . . faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

Ephesians 2:8-9 -- "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."

Hebrews 11:6 -- " . . . without faith it is impossible to please Him . . ."

diligently. We should be willing to give it all and suffer as much as necessary for one simple reason – Jesus Christ.

We have a Truly Great Savior!

1Spiritual Strength Training

We have a morning routine in our home involving muscles: When Joe and Dan wake up, I’ll ask, “Where are your muscles?! Did they grow?” They are always eager to rip off their shirts, bear their scrawny chests (in a true caveman-style), and hold up their arms. And – wouldn’t you know - every morning those muscles “grow!”

All of this reminds me that I can’t neglect spiritual strength training. If the Lord asked me every morning, “Did your spiritual muscles grow?” then I would most often have to say “no.” Am I the only one? Here are some fun ways to think about spiritual growth:

1. Am I ready to “push-up” against conflict and bear my Savior’s name? 2. Do I “lunge” away from bitterness, guilt, or lies? 3. Is the “weight” of God’s word heavier than my worldly concerns? 4. Am I willing to “run” to the Lord? 5. Do I truly trust my “trainer?”

Any “yes” answers take a lot of work, but they show spiritual growth. I desire to teach my children and the children I influence that believing in Jesus is the absolute hardest thing they will ever do because it is painful, time-consuming, and could even cost them their lives. Yet having a relationship with Jesus is the only thing that matters, so that means we need His strength training. But are we willing? Can we ignore the crowd, keep our eyes on Jesus, and forget the obstacles in our way? Absolutely. Because one day the training will be complete and we will be with Him. But, until then, let’s get to working on our “muscles!”
