Hehasauthoredorco-authoredmorethan�50publications,includingpeer-reviewedarticles, abstracts and book chapters. Most relate to his interest and expertise inuroradiology.Inrecentyears,duetohispositionattheABR,hehasbeenwritingpapersandspeakingmorefrequentlyonresidenttrainingandtheABRMOCprogram.

HehasservedontheRSNABoardofDirectors,ontheeditorialboardforRSNA’sjournalRadioGraphics, and was a scientific reviewer for Radiology. Dr. Hattery is involved in anumberofothersocietiesandhasbeenactiveintheAmericanCollegeofRadiology(ACR)whereheservedasamemberoftheboardofchancellors.

Francis Mahoney, PhD

ThroughDr.Mahoney’seffortsattheNationalCancerInstitute(NCI),many medical physicists have developed the confidence, persistence, and ‘behind the scenes knowledge’ of how the National Institutes ofHealth (NIH) funding process works so that they were ultimatelysuccessfulintheirresearchendeavors.

Dr.MahoneywasanAtomicEnergyCommissionHealthPhysicsfellowat the University of Rochester, receiving an MS in Radiation Biologyin�958,followedbyanMEinAppliedPhysicsfromHarvardin�960.

In�968,he receiveda secondME inEngineering fromHarvardandaPhD fromtheMassachusettsInstituteofTechnologyinNuclearEngineering,researchinggammaraysfromfastneutronscattering.

AfterthreeyearsattheU.S.Army’sNatickLaboratoriesinMassachusetts,researchingfoodpreservationusingionizingradiation,heconcludedthathelovedsciencebutwasnotenamoredwithhands-onresearch.Thisledtoayear-longtrainingprogramattheNIHwherebyMD’sandPhD’swerepreparedforacareerinScienceAdministration.

Uponcompletionoftheprogramin�97�,heobtainedapositionintheNCIExtramuralProgramasaProgramDirectorforRadiationBiologyandPhysics.Intheintervening�4years,under5NCIdirectors,6NIHdirectorsand7presidents,heremainedinessentiallythesamepositionwithexpandingbudgetsandresponsibilities.HehasbeentheNCIscientific official-of-record for more than $1 billion dollars in grants involving radiation biology,chemistry,physicsandoncology. Hebecame“theNCI” foragenerationofradiation researchers. He was a messenger of good (and bad) tidings, an advisor, acoach,asoundingboard,“therepresentativeofanunfairandanunsympatheticsystem”and,often,afather-confessor.

Hehasbeena longtimememberof theAmericanPhysicalSocietyandtheRadiationResearchSociety,andbecameanhonorarymemberofAmericanSocietyforTherapeuticRadiologyandOncologyin�005.HeretiredfromtheNCIinearly�006.

Michael Davis, MS, JD

Michael Davis was a double major in Physics & Astronomy andMathematicsatWesternKentuckyUniversity.HereceivedhisMastersdegreeinRadiologicalMedicalPhysicsfromtheUniversityofKentuckyinearly�985.HealsoobtainedaDoctorofJurisprudencedegreefromthe South Texas College of Law in �994. Davis worked for RockyMountain Medical Physics in Denver from �985-�988. He was at theUniversityofTexasM.D.AndersonCancerCenterinHoustonforeightyears.TherehebecametheDirectorofBrachytherapyServices.Andhewasalsoat theGreenvilleHospitalSysteminSouthCarolinawerehe

wasDirectorofRadiationOncology.HeiscurrentlyaSeniorTreatmentPlanningSystemSalesSpecialist forVarianMedicalSystems. Davisbecamea studentmemberof theAAPMin�984andafullmemberin�99�.HehasbeenactiveintheorganizationsincethenandhecurrentlylivesinHouston,Texas.

Gary Ezzell, PhD

GaryEzzellreceivedhisMSfromGeorgiaTechin�977andhisPhDfromWayneStateUniversityin�994.AfterworkinginAtlantaandCleveland,in�984hemovedtoWayneStateUniversityinDetroit,whereheprovidedclinicalserviceandtaughtfor�5years.In�999hejoinedMayoClinicinScottsdale, Arizona, where he leads the physics section in RadiationOncologyandisAssociateProfessorofOncologyintheMayoMedicalSchool. He has published �4 refereed papers and contributed to �5chaptersandhasbeenonthefacultyofthreeAAPMSummerSchools.HehasbeenanoralboardexaminerfortheAmericanBoardofMedical

PhysicsandtheAmericanBoardofRadiology.HisservicetotheAAPMincludestermson the AAPM Board of Directors, the Radiation Therapy Committee, and the Scientific Program Committee. He was a Scientific Co-director for the 2004 annual meeting and is thecurrentAAPMSecretary.

MichaelFlynnreceivedhisPhDinNuclearSciencefromtheUniversityofMichigan(�975)whereheinvestigatedthetransportandenergylosseffectsofchargedparticlesinemulsionradiationdetectors.HepreviouslyworkedattheMt.SinaiMedicalCenterinClevelandandattheMedicalSchooloftheUniversityofMichigan.Since�98�hehasworkedatHenryFordHealthSystemasaclinicalmedicalphysicistandaresearchscientist.Forthelast�0yearshehastaughtradiationimaginglectureandlaboratorycourses at the University of Michigan as an adjunct faculty member.MichaelFlynn’sinterestshavebeeninx-rayimagingwherehehasdone

research on digital subtraction angiography, quantitative computed tomography,specimen micro-tomography, and digital radiography processing, and the display ofdigitalradiographs.HehasbeenactivelyinvolvedinthedevelopmentandimplementationofPACSsystems.

David Followill, PhD

DavidFollowillreceivedhisPhDdegreefromtheUniversityofTexasHealthScienceCenterGraduateSchoolofBiomedicalSciencesin�99�.Aftercompletingaoneyearclinicalpost-docatM.D.AndersonCancerCenterhejoinedtheRadiologicalPhysicsCenter(RPC)atM.D.AndersonCancer Center, where he is now an Associate Professor of RadiationPhysicsandAssociateDirectoroftheRPC.Dr.FollowillhasservedinmanycapacitiesintheAAPM.Hecurrentlyservesontwocommittees,twotaskgroupsandontheLocalArrangementsCommitteeforthe�008AAPM meeting. He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology.

Gig Mageras, PhD

GigMagerasreceivedhisPhDinphysicsfromColumbiaUniversityin�98�. After a postdoctoral study in experimental particle physics, hejoinedtheDepartmentofMedicalPhysicsatMemorialSloan-KetteringCancer Center (MSKCC) in �988, where he is currently an attendingphysicist. Since�997hehasbeenaproject leaderonNationalCancerInstitute sponsored program project grants to study �D conformalradiotherapyandIntensityModulatedRadiationTherapy.Dr.Magerashas published over 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals in the field of medicalphysics,andhasmentored8postdoctoral fellowsatMSKCC.

He is board certified by the American Board of Medical Physics. Dr. Mageras has been aco-chairofanAAPMtaskgrouponmanagementofrespiratorymotioninradiationtherapy. He is a member of the AAPM Scientific Program Subcommittee, was therapy track coordinator for the 2005 Annual Meeting, and is co-director of the Scientific Program forthisyear’smeeting.

Andrew D. Maidment, PhD

Andrew Maidment received his PhD degree from the University ofToronto in �99� for developing a scanned-slot digital mammographysystem.From�99�-�00�hewastheDirectorofRadiologicalPhysicsandAssistant Professor of Radiology at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr.Maidment is now Assistant Professor of Radiology and Chief of thePhysicsSectionat theUniversityofPennsylvania. Dr.MaidmenthasservedinmanycapacitiesintheAAPM,andiscurrentlyVice-Chairofthe Scientific Program Subcommittee, and Liaison to the Radiological Society of North America Scientific Program Committee. He has also

been active professionally in the American College of Radiology and is currently amember of the Mammography Physics Subcommittee. Dr. Maidment has publishedover�40peer-reviewedjournalarticles,bookchapters,proceedingspapersandabstracts.Hisresearchinterestsincludedigitalmammography,�-Dxrayimagingofthebreast,anddigitalradiographydetectorphysics.

JanelleMolloyearnedherPhDfromtheUniversityofVirginiain�990andremainedamemberofthefacultythereuntil�005.ShecurrentlyisaSeniorAssociateConsultantintheRadiationOncologyDepartmentattheMayoClinic.HerservicetotheAAPMbeganwiththepositionofSecretary/TreasureroftheMid-AtlanticChapteroftheAAPMandgrewfromtheretoChapterPresidentandBoardRepresentative.Sheco-directedtheClinicalElectronBeamDosimetrySymposiumandwaswebmanagerandlist-ownerfortheMAC-AAPMforseveralyears. Herservicehasexpanded to include membership on the AAPM’s Therapy Physics,

Regional Organization committees and Remotely Directed Continuing EducationSub-Committee.InadditionsheisanactivememberofCAMPEP’sResidencyReviewand Continuing Education Committees and served as an examiner for the AmericanBoard of Radiology. Dr. Molloy has developed an active research program inimage-guidedtherapy,havingobtainedanRO�grant fromtheNational InstitutesofHealthandsupervisedseveralgraduatestudents.

In�996, she was appointed The Cooper Health System Radiation SafetyOfficer. She accepted her current position of Radiation Safety Officer andMedicalPhysicistat thePhiladelphiaVAMedicalCenter in�997.

Mary is certified in Radiological Physics by the American Board of Radiology (1982) and inMedicalHealthPhysicsbytheAmericanBoardofMedicalPhysics(�99�).SheisaFellowoftheHealthPhysicsSociety.

Herbert Mower, ScD

Herb Mower entered the field of medical physics in graduate school underDr.TrumpintheLaheyClinic/MITradiationoncologyprogramwhichpioneeredconformalx-ray therapy, total skinelectron therapy,anddynamicrotationaltherapyin�966.Hehasdesignedfourradiationoncologycentersandhashelpedprepareabout�0youngphysicistsintheclinicalapplicationsoftherapyphysicsandtrainedthreedosimetrists.HerbwasafounderandchartermemberoftheConnecticut(CAMPS)AAPMchapterandisthecurrentchairoftheAAPM’sEducationCouncil.Has served the profession as a liaison to the Conference of Radiation

ControlProgramDirectors,andtheAllianceforQualityMedicalImagingandRadiationTherapytoenhancetheawarenessoftheprofessionalroleofmedicalphysicists.HeiscurrentlytheChairoftheAmericanCollegeofMedicalPhysicsandhashelpedtodevelopavendor’sQualityAssuranceprogramforHighDoseRateRemoteBrachytherapy.Heis currently involved with evaluation of physics residency training programs forphysicistsandresidentsrelativetotheirprofessionalneedsandunderstanding.

Robert Pizzutiello, Jr, MS

Robert Pizzutiello received both BSEE and MSEE degrees from theUniversityofRochesterin�977and�978afterwhichhetrainedinMedicalPhysicsattheUniversityofRochesterSchoolofMedicine.From�979to1989, Bob served as a Medical Physicist and Radiation Safety Officer at Rochester General Hospital. Since �989, Bob has been full time asPresidentandfounderofUpstateMedicalPhysics,Inc.andisaphysicsreviewer for the American College of Radiology Mammography andStereotactic Breast Biopsy Accreditation Programs. Bob was a keymember of the New York State (NYS) Medical Physics License group

andsubsequentlyservedasamemberontheMedicalPhysicsAdvisoryCommitteeoftheNYSBoardforMedicine.Bobhasauthoredchaptersandarticlesinoversixbooksandhasproducedtwobooklets,twovideosandaself-learningCDmodule.

Mark Rzeszotarski, PhD

MarkRzeszotarskireceivedhisPhDdegreefromCaseWesternReserveUniversity(CWRU)in�98�andwasemployedasadiagnosticmedicalphysicist and Radiation Safety Officer for sixteen years at Mt. Sinai MedicalCenterinCleveland,Ohio.HejoinedthefacultyatMetroHealthMedicalCenterin�998andiscurrentlyAssociateProfessorofRadiologyand Biomedical Engineering at CWRU. Dr. Rzeszotarski has taughtmedicalphysicstobothengineersanddiagnosticradiologyresidentsformore than twenty years. After completing the Clinical Medical Physics ResidencyProgram at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, she joined theDepartmentofRadiologyattheUniversityofMinnesota,in�99�.Shethen returned to the Mayo Clinic in �997, where she is now associateprofessorofRadiology.Dr.SchuelerhasservedinmanycapacitiesintheAmericanAssociationofPhysicistsinMedicine.Sheisthepastchairof the Medical Physics Education of Allied Health Professionals andserved as vice-chair of the Education Council. She is board certified by

Lane Hospital in San Francisco. This first medical linear accelerator appropriately christenedLA�wascommissionedin�956.In�959StanfordHospitalmovedtoPaloAltoandKarzbecameheadoftheRadiologicPhysicssection.Heretiredin�988after��yearsofservicetoStanford.

AtatimewhenCobalt60wasking,Karzwasastrongpromoteroflinacsforradiationoncology.HisdetractorspointedtotheirtechnologicalcomplexityandpotentialdowntimebutKarzshowedthatwithsystematicpreventativemaintenancethelinacwasthefutureforradiationtreatment.Theclassic�99�referencetext,MedicalLinearAccelerators,co authored by Karz, was a major contribution to our field late in his career. He also led a pioneering effort in the development of the first dedicated RT simulator. Karz’s clinical contributions included the first total skin therapy technique with electrons and a rigorousdosimetrysystemforHodgkin’sDiseasetreatment.Hetaughtmedicalphysicstoinnumerablefutureradiationoncologists.

AsAAPM’s�4thpresidentKarzaddressedtheneedforanewjournalin�97�.MedicalPhysics was first published the next year. He also instituted the present council structure.

Karzissurvivedbyfourchildrenandthreegrandchildren.Manyphysicistsasourselvesowetheircareerstohisexample,encouragementandforjustbeingagentleman.

Edward Webster, PhD

EdwardW.Webster,betterknowntofriendsandcolleaguesas“Ted”,was a physicist for all seasons. He was a renown scientist, a fine scholar, a skilled teacher, a loyal mentor and a highly respected colleagueand friend. His numerous contributions to medical physics weremultifaceted,includingradiationoncology,radiationdosimetry,highvoltageengineering,nuclearmedicine,radiationprotection,andthebiophysicsoflowlevelradiationexposure.Ted’smanyprofessionalactivitiesbeganwiththedraftingoftheAAPMConstitutionandBy

laws.In�964,hebecamethe5thpresidentoftheAAPM,whichhonoredhimin�98�withthecovetedCoolidgeAward.Heplayedamajorroleinthetrainingandeducationofphysiciansandmedicalphysics,beginningwithnumerouscoursesheinitiatedintheBostonareaandthedraftingofteachingsyllabusesandexamquestionsfortheAAPMandtheAmericanCollegeofRadiology.HewillbelongrememberedforhisimportantrollasaphysicsexaminerfortheAmericanBoardofRadiologyonwhichheservedinvariouscapacitiesfor�6years.

TedwasborninLondononApril��,�9��anddiedinaretirementfacilityinBedford,MAonDecember�7,�005.HeearnedadoctorateinEEduringthewaryearsinLondon.HissubsequentworkonthedesignofVandeGraaffgeneratorsattheEnglishElectricCompanypromptedTed’sdecisiontopursuepostdoctoralstudiesinnuclearphysicsatMIT,whereheworkedwithVandeGraaffandTrump.AfterlecturingatKing’sCollegeinLondonforayear,hereturnedtoBostonin�95�attheinvitationofDr.RobbinatMGM.Thusbeganabrilliantcareerinmedicalphysicsthatwouldcontinuefor47yearsuntilhisretirementinJanuary�00�.

Ted served on numerous committees of many scientific and professional organizations. For��yearshewasaprodigiousparticipant intheactivitiesof theNationalCouncilonRadiationProtectionandMeasurements,culminatingwiththehonorofpresentingthe�6thannualTaylorLectureonDoseandRiskinDiagnosticRadiology.HeplayedaparticularlyimportantroleontheBEIRIIICommitteeforwhichheandHaroldRossipreparedacontroversialdraftadvocatingthelinearquadraticdoseeffectmodelwhichlaterwassupportedbythemajorityoftheCommittee.

Ted is survived by his second wife, Dorothea, and six children, John, Peter, Anne,Edward,MarkandSusan;andbysixgrandchildren.

Peter Wootton was born in Peterborough, England in �9�4. HeattendedBirminghamUniversityinBirmingham,England,whereheearnedthedegreeofBScwithHonors,intheSchoolofPhysics,andtrainedattheChristieCancerHospital.

FollowingWorldWarIIhetookapositionasradiationphysicistatthe Royal Infirmary in Glasgow, Scotland. In 1951, he came to the UnitedStatesasan Instructorat theUniversityofTexas,Houston,

andasmedicalphysicistattheM.D.AndersonHospital.ThereheworkedwithRobertShalekandGilbertFletcheronaspectsofthecalculationofdoseinwaterandtissuefromradiumandcobalt60.

In �95�, Peter came to Seattle, as a Radiation Physicist at the Tumor Institute of theSwedishHospital;hewasatthattimetheonlyfulltimemedicalphysicistintheNorthwestregion.HecametotheUniversityofWashingtonin�964,tobecomeAssistantProfessorofRadiologyandHeadoftheDivisionofMedicalRadiationPhysics.HewaspromotedtoAssociateProfessorin�967andtoProfessorin�97�.WhentheAAPMwasincorporatedin�965,PeterservedasamemberoftheinitialBoardofDirectors,andin�978heservedatermasAAPMPresident.

He continued to lead the Medical Physics Division at the University of Washington(UW)untilhisretirementin�995.DuringhistenureattheUniversityofWashingtonhecreatedamedicalphysicsservicefortheNorthwest,thenknownastheRegionalMedicalPhysicsprogram.Subsequentlyitbecameanindependentservice,theNorthwestMedicalPhysicsCenter,whichisstilloperatingtoday.Amongmanythings,heworkedwithDr.RobertParkeronstudiesoftheOxygenEffect,initiallyontheuseofhyperbaricoxygenasaradiationsensitizer. Later,undercontractwiththeNationalCancerInstitute,heledthedevelopmentoftheUniversityofWashingtonClinicalNeutronTherapySystem,whichisstillinoperationandremainsstateofthearttoday.

From�965-�968,heservedasChiefoftheDosimetrySectionattheInternationalAtomicEnergyAgency,Vienna,Austria.AfterreturningtotheU.S.in�968,hejoinedtheNationalBureauofStandards,latertheNationalInstitutesofStandardsandTechnology,inGaithersburg,MD,andbecametheleaderoftheDosimetryGroup.WithfullsupportoftheNBS,heworkedcloselywiththe AAPM. This led to the current system of five AAPM-accredited secondary standard dose laboratories, directly traceable to NIST. He officially retired in 1988, but stayed on till�99�,and“maintainedadesk”thereforanothertenyears.

LoevingerwasaChartermemberoftheAAPM.HewasonitsExecutiveCommitteefrom �958 to �965. In �966 he became a member of the subcommittee for radiationdosimetry(SCRAD).Hewasamember,andlaterconsultant,oftheRadiationTherapyCommittee,andchairmanoftheAd-HocCommitteeontheEffectsofSIunits.Hewasa key member of five AAPM Task Groups, which together covered all aspects of clinical dosimetry.HewasalsoamemberoftheMedicalInternalRadiationDosimetry(MIRD)CommitteeoftheSocietyofNuclearMedicinefrom�968to�99�.Heproducedabout�00publications.

Azam Niroomand-Rad received her PhD in Atomic and MolecularPhysics from Michigan State University in �978. She completeda post-doctoral fellowship in medical physics at the University ofWisconsin, Madison in 1983, and is currently board certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and the American Board ofMedicalPhysics.Forthepast�8years,shehasworkedatGeorgetownUniversity Medical Center (GUMC) in Washington D.C. She iscurrentlyafullprofessoratGUMCandservesasthePresidentofthe

InternationalOrganizationofMedicalPhysics(IOMP).

For the past �5 years, Dr. Niroomand-Rad has been very productive in academia asa clinical radiation oncology physicist. She has published over forty peer-reviewedarticlesandnumerousbookchapters,andisco-inventorofaU.S.patentfordesigninga novel stereotactic method for treatment of spine lesions. She has been an invitedspeakertomanyconferencesrelatedtoherclinicalresearchactivities.Inaddition,shehasbeenrecognizedforherteachingandhasreceivedtheTeacheroftheYearAwardfromtheAssociationofResidentsinRadiationOncology.SheisalsoanOralExaminerforAmericanBoardofRadiology. Heradministrative responsibilitieshave includedthatofClinicalPhysicsDirectoratGUMC.

In addition to her research, teaching, administrative, and patient care activities, Dr.Niroomand-Rad has been very active in the scientific, educational, and professional activities of the AAPM. She became a Fellow of our organization in �997. She hasserved theassociation inmanycapacities, including twiceasamemberof theBoardof Directors, Founding Chair of the International Scientific Exchange Programs for developingcountries,ChairofInternationalAffairsCommittee,ChairofTaskGroups,andasanAssociateEditoroftheMedicalPhysicsJournal.

In her role as President of the IOMP, she has helped promote the status of medicalphysicsworldwide.Shehasbeencriticalintheestablishmentofseveralnationalmedicalphysicsassociationsinthedevelopingcountriesandhasorganizedmanyinternationalscientific and educational programs. Most recently, she has worked diligently towards thelistingofthemedicalphysicsprofessionasahealthprofessioninthenextrevisionofthe International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-88) by the International LaborOrganization.
