COMMANDER’S CORNER Fellow Legionnaires,

I hope everyone had a Happy Easter. Time is flying and

Summer will be here before we know it. April 27th we had

our annual golf tournament and a good time was had by all.

It was a beautiful day to be out in the fresh air. You can

see a few of the pictures in this newsletter.

This month is our annual Memorial Day service at

Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery where we honor all of our

fallen brothers. Also this year, we are endeavoring, along

with the Johnson County Veterans Council, to place a flag

on every veteran’s gravesite in the county. This is a huge

project for all the organizations including Post 71. From

the research the council has done, there are 19 cemeteries

in our area (a few are maintained by a church), of which,

we were putting out flags at just 5. This will be a large

undertaking by our Post, but one that should be done and it

will take a good group of volunteers to see it through. I

hope that most of us can spare some time that morning to

honor those that came before us. As soon as details are

available, we will email them out to the distribution list.

Later this month, don’t forget the one that brought you

into this world! Let her know you’re thinking of her on

Mother’s Day.

Also this month, we will finalize the list of officer

nominees for next year before we vote at the June meeting.

It’s gonna be a busy month and I hope to see you at the

meeting!

Troy Alcorn

So the Month of May is upon us. In this Month there are three days we as Americans and legionnaires recognize and celebrate, Mothers Day, Armed Forces Day and of course Memorial Day. If we look, we can find that we can't have

The Children of theses Mothers can choose through free will whatever path they decide to take in in life. But, the faithful and willing choose a path of sacrifice and love to become their Nations protectors Psalms 82:3-4 and Philippians 2:3-4. And when the Lord calls one of our Brother or Sisters home, we should find peace and comfort in knowing "the righteous is used in blessings, but the name of the wicked will rot" -Proverbs 10:7. I hope to see all of you at the next meeting until then, God bless. Wade Stanley, Chaplain, Leonard Moore Post 71
