Background: The case for amine free
• Triethyl amine (TEA) is the most common neutralization agent for PUDs.
• According to GHS labeling it is flammable, harmful and toxic to the skin and eyes.
• Due to this classification, resulting binders and paints with TEA >1% have classification:
• TEA is listed as a Hazardous Air Pollutant and has a significant impact on emissions and indoor air quality.

Wood Finishes for Interior Use
Pencil Hardness. When prepared and tested on a 1 mil thick dry film according to
ASTM D 3363 – 92a, the product shall have a pencil hardness of 2H or greater.

Adhesion. The product shall have an adhesion of 4B or higher after 7 days cure
time when tested according to ASTM D3359 on a dried film of 0.5 to 1 mil
thickness.

PRODUCT-SPECIFIC HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The product shall not contain any ingredients that are carcinogens, mutagens, or
reproductive toxins
Prohibited Ingredients. The product shall not contain the following ingredients:
1,2-dichlorobenzene, Alkyl phenol ethoxylates, Formaldehyde donors, Hazardous
air pollutants, Halogenated solvents, Ozone-depleting compounds, Heavy metals:
lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, and antimony in the elemental
form or compounds, The phthalate esters: o di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate o butyl
benzyl phthalate o di-n-butyl phthalate o di-n-octyl phthalate o diethyl phthalate o
dimethyl phthalate, Triphenyl tins and tributyl tins and Triclosan

Green Seal GS-11 Paints, Coatings, Stains, and Sealers
Volatile Aromatic Hydrocarbons. The product shall contain no more than 0.5% by
weight of sum total of volatile aromatic hydrocarbons.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). 16 The VOC content of the product shall not
exceed the current content limits for its product category as set by CARB, 17
unless specified otherwise in this standard.
