Wehavehadaveryexcitingandproductivesummer,andarelookingforwardtoagreatfall!
WehavecompletedthebulkofourBelieveandPrepareCapitalCampaignwork.ThissummerJesseFiskeandhisworkershaverepointedthestoneandbrickbuildings,cleanedupthenarthextower,updatedthewindowsinouroffices,andputanawningovertheentrancetoECS.Theyhavealsodoneavarietyofneeded,butunexpected,repairstotheAllenHallroofandtheelevator/stairtowernexttoAllenHall,refurbishedthelamppostsontheoutsideofthebuilding,updatedtheelectricalworkundertheheatedrampandinthe“cloisterwalk”,builtabaseforournewsign,didsomeroofandcapstonesealing,andhelpedprotectthechoirroomstainedglasswindows.CentralHeatingandPlumbingalsoreplacedourchoirroomairconditioningandinstalledairconditioningintheupstairsdiningroom.Thetwomajorpiecesofcapitalcampaignworkremainingaretherepair/replacementofthewoodenframesandplexiglassinfrontofthechurch’sstainedglasswindowsandtherefurbishingofthreeranksofourorganpipes.IwanttothankallwhohavecontributedandallwhoarestillmakingpledgepaymentstoBelieveandPrepare.Weareaccomplishingtheworkneededonourbuildingsforthenextphaseofministry.
FourmembersofSt.John’sjoinedsevenothersfromtheDioceseonanine-daymissiontriptotheDominicanRepublicthisJuly.

ThissummerIfinishedmycourseworkformyDoctorofMinistrydegree.Thefocusontheclassesandpapersisapplyingwhatwelearntotheparticularparishandministrywhereweare.Someofourclassesthissummerabouteffectiveoutreachandsimilarprogrammingdovetailedwithvestrydiscussionsthatwehavehadthisyear.Aswehavegottenmoreengagedwiththecommunityaroundus,newchallengeshavecontinuedtoarise.InSeptemberandOctober,wewillexploresomeoftheseissuesinashortsermonseries.
Iwillalsobeworkingonathesisprojectthisfall.Myfocusistheintersectionoffaithandcommunityleadership.IwillbelookingathowthechurchcanhelpcommunityleadersunderstandtheirworkasvocationandopentheireyestohowtheyareparticipatinginGod’sdreamforthecity.Iamhappytotalkmoreaboutmywork–justask!

Afterwatchingthesolareclipseyesterday,InoticedhowoftenIheardorreadthephrase“Onceinalifetimeevent”. Itwasfantastic,
observingthecelestialdramaunfoldaboveandbeyondourearthlyrealm.Icanonlyimagewhatitmusthavebeenliketobeinthefulltotaleclipse,tofeelthetemperaturedropasthemoonobscuredthesuncompletely,tohearthebirdsandcricketschangetheirsongfromdaytonight,tosuddenlyseethehiddencoronadancebeyondtheedgeofthesun’sownatmosphere.
Andthenitwasover.Returningtomyplanningworkforthenewchoiryear,itstruckmeathowquicklytheSummerhaseclipsed.Andyeteverydaythathadpassedwasalsoa“onceinalifetimeevent”,somewerebigger,mostmuchmoreordinary.Thereisstilltimetonoticetheextraordinaryblessingofeachday.Let’srevelinourtime!
OnSeptember6th,Choirrehearsalreturns7:30-9:00pm.Wewelcomeallsingers,youngandold,ifyoucancarryatunedojoinin!OurfirstChoirserviceoftheyearisSept10that10:00am. Helpusmakeourownworshipexperiencesspiritualeventstoremember.

Thanks to our summer lay weeder...Rich Billioni, has been keeping the hedges trimmed during the hot summer months along with mowing the lawn. Our Sexton, Fred Dickman has been experiencing back problems since June, and Rich stepped up to the plate to help Fred out with lawn. Get better, Fred, and Thank You, Rich!
