Defninition

A dislocated shoulder is an injury in which

your upper arm bone pops out of the cup-shaped socket that’s part of your shoulder

blade.

Anatomy of the shoulder

Types

-In over 95% of shoulder dislocations the humerus is displaced anteriorly . Usually caused by the arm being forcefully twisted outward (external rotation ) when the arm is above the level of the shoulder.

-Posterior dislocation of the shoulder are much less common than anterior dislocation often occur from seizures or electric shocks when the muscle of the front of the shoulder contract and forcefully tighten.

Reasons why shoulder mostcommon dislocation

The muscular, ligamentous, and bony anatomy of the shoulder (glenohumeral joint) gives it the most extensive range of motion of any joint in the human body. However, this anatomy also makes the glenohumeral joint the most unstable joint in the body.

Common causes and result of dislocation of the joints:

-A fall on the hand.

-Excessive extension and lateral rotation of the

Hummersmost common cause is Anterior dislocations/posterior

-Shallow glenoid cavity

Result of dislocation of the joints:

Damage in AXILLARY NERVE and RADIAL NERVE.

This is indicated by paralysis of the deltoid muscle and loss of skin sensation over the lower half of the deltoid .

Damage in deltoid muscle , in acromioclavicular ligament and coracoclavicular ligament

common symptoms of Axillary artery damage:

Painmotor and sensitive deficienciesdistal ischemia

The most commonly dislocated joints is the Glenohumeral joint.
