Blackpoolbouncingback withfun eventFlooding can’t dampencommunity spirit in areaA GATHERING which aimsto bring amuch-needed boostto local residents and busi-nesses, and which was due totake place earlier thismonth, will go ahead onSunday, June 9.

Local woman Edel O’Mahony, whois manager at the Bridge Inn onGreat William O’Brien Street, is or-ganising what she says promises tobe a day full of fun and laughter forlocal residents.

She said: “The village has beenthrough a tough few monthsbetween flooding and the post officeleaving. After seeing how united thecommunity is when a crisis arises, Iwould like to get them all togetherfor a positive reason.”

The event, which will get underway at the Bridge Inn from 4pm, willfeature live music, finger food andspot prizes.

Local businesses have also lenttheir support to the initiative and abook of vouchers that can be re-deemed in shops and businesses inthe village will also be available.

“I have also arranged for Heinek-en Ireland to get on board andbetween them and The Bridge Inneveryone will get a free drink on theday,” Ms O’Mahony added.

Tickets for the event will be €5and all proceeds will go directly toBlackpool Community Centre, andso in turn will be put back into thecommunity.

Among those taking to the stagefor the event will be members of theBlackpool Youth Club who will per-form a short act that they recentlyshowcased at the Firkin CraneTheatre in Shandon.

Businesses supporting the initiat-ive include The Tanning Shop, LeeCabs, Joyce’s Coal, Butterfly, TheBearhaven Bar, O’Halloran’s Bar,Centra Blackpool, KingstonButchers, Blue Cabs and The OldMill Confectionery.

Food Capers, Dennehy’s FishShop, Looney’s Chipper, Mick Mori-arty Barbers, Tridant Cleaners, Cos-tello stone, and The Coffee Pot arealso backing the event.
