FROM THE PRINCIPAL Welcome to week nine and our final Newsletter for term three. What a super busy but fantastic term we have had. From NAIDOC week celebrations, to Athletics Carnivals, Reader’s Cup, Public and German Speaking Comps, to NAPLAN and Book Week celebrations. We complete the term just as we started, - eventfully engaged. We have Parent/Teacher Interviews being conducted this afternoon and this evening, school photos on this Thursday 7/09/17, our P & C Car Show Fundraiser this Sunday the 10th of September, followed by Under 8’s Day, Rockfest, and our Netball/Soccer Gala Day which is being held on the last day of this school term. Engaging in quality teaching and learning and ensuring opportunities of excellence are provided at our school is and will remain a school priority. All of these opportunities would not be made possible without the professional commitment of our staff, the support of parents and caregivers, and the excellent participation, attitude and engagement of students. On behalf of all of our staff at Peak Crossing State School, thank you for all of your support and thank you for a wonderful term of learning. Staffing Special welcome back to Ms Chris McLellan who has returned from leave. Chris is still getting around on crutches, but it is so wonderful to have her back, as Chris is such a valuable asset at our school. We have one main change of staffing for the rest of this term, and next term. Unfortunately, due to health reasons, Mrs Sara Clark will not be returning to Peak Crossing State School in 2017. The year 2/3 students and their parents and carers have already been informed. I am sure you will understand that sometimes these things happen and are beyond anyone’s control. The position for a replacement teacher for term four has been advertised. There are big shoes to fill, however we will be endeavouring to ensure that we try and find the best teacher that we can, to suit the needs of the year 2/3 students, and our school. Applicants who are shortlisted will undergo a panel interview. The successful person will then engage in an Induction process, meet the class and the team, and be ready to start fresh in term 4. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Sara Clark for the wonderful contributions that she has made to enhancing and improving the outcomes of her students and for all of her wonderful contributions to our school team and community – ‘Thank you Sara’. Sara is an excellent teacher and we will miss having her bright and optimistic persona around. .
On behalf of all the team at Peak Crossing State School, we wish Sara all the very best for a speedy recovery and happy and healthy future days to come. Parent/Teacher Interviews Parent/Teacher Interviews are being conducted this afternoon and this evening in our school Hall. Parents and Carers who requested an Interview time would have received confirmation of their Interview time by their child’s class teacher. Thank you in advance to all parent/s and caregiver/s who have taken up the opportunity to engage with our Parent/Teacher Interviews. If at any time you have concerns about your child or anything important pops up, please know that it is important you make contact to inform us of this information straight away. You can make contact with your child’s class teacher or our school office to arrange a mutually convenient time. A special thank you to Maree and the team at Peak Kidz for accommodating us in using the hall this afternoon. If you are collecting your child from afterschool care, please collect them this afternoon from our school Library. Prep Enrolments and Prep Transition We are now taking PREP enrolments for 2018. If you have a child who will be ready to commence Prep (turning 5 by the 30th of June, 2018), or you know someone else that does, and they would love to attend our great little school, please encourage them to contact our School Office as soon as possible. If you have a child or know of a child who will turn 5 on or before the 31st of July, 2018, and you consider that they may be a contender for early entry to Prep, due to the child having the social, emotional, physical and cognitive attributes required by legislation for early entry to Prep, please contact the Principal to make an appointment to discuss your child’s eligibility and to receive an application form. All Early Childhood Education Centres provide age appropriate pedagogies and differentiate, however sometimes they may also feel that a child who meets the early entry to prep guidelines would be well suited for a school setting. Providing a letter of support from your child’s Early Childhood Centre, may also assist with supporting an early entry to Prep application. There are no guarantees that any child eligible for Prep will be enrolled in 2018, but for any child who meets the early entry to Prep criteria, applications are encouraged. Our school will be offering a 2018 Prep Parent/Caregiver Information session and Prep transition program in term 4. More Information will come home in our first Newsletter in week 1 Term 4, and on a separate Prep Flyer. Information will also be communicated via Goodstart Early Learning Centre. Please note: That although we work closely with Goodstart Early Learning Centre, all eligible Prep students whether they attend an Early Learning Childhood Centre or not, are welcome to attend. So, watch this space, more information will coming soon. Public Speaking Competition and Reader’s Cup Best wishes to our Reader’s Cup team of students – Madeline Ryall, Ashley Leatch, Amy Curtis and Sophie Russell. These four girls will compete in the State Final at Ipswich Girl’s Grammar School on Wednesday the 6th of September. Best of luck to our Peak Crossing State School team for the State Finals tomorrow evening, and special thanks to Mrs McLellan for all of her hard work in helping to prepare our students for this competition. Last Thursday morning, I had the pleasure of watching three of our year six students compete at the Fassifern Cluster Public Speaking Competition held at Kalbar State School. Congratulations to Madeline Ryall, Charlize Stephenson and William Dobbin, who did themselves, their family and our school proud. These three students did not take out a place at this year’s competition, but they did an excellent job all the same. Participating and having a go in competitions like this, certainly helps to prepare our students for the high school world. Thank you to Amy Curtis, Taylah Nuhn and Jonathon Atwell from year five who supported our year six students and got an early introduction into this Public Speaking Competition. German Speaking Competition Thank you to Frau L for not just doing an amazing job at our school, but for supporting our students at a recent German Speaking Competition. Congratulations to Sophie Russell, Ashley Leatch and Amy Curtis for all of their efforts and achievement. Please see Frau L’s write up below on the outcome of this event.
INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION AND ASSESSMENT OF SCHOOL (ICAS) Congratulations to all students who were selected to participate in the ICAS competition. The ICAS
competition is an opportunity for students to be extended. All students should be proud of their efforts and it certainly is great experience. We had some outstanding results. We had a couple of students receive a Distinction (Ava Blizzard and Jack Taylor for Spelling). A phenomenal effort, as those students sit in the
top ten percent of the nation.

P & C CAR SHOW FUNDRAISER Just a reminder that our Car Fundraiser is on this Sunday the 10th of September from 9am – 2pm. If you are not a car fan, please don’t worry, we have plenty on offer. We have plenty to keep the children amused, including a giant ‘Ninja Warrior’ obstacle course, a smaller one for the littler children, and a blow up slide, along with face painting and a chocolate wheel, just to name a few. Our School Choir will perform at 11am. If you want to do a little shopping, we have market stalls attending, or perhaps you would like to come and get some delicious food for lunch. Oh, and did I mention prizes, we have a mega raffle with multiple prizes, and the chance to win cash on the day. Come for an hour, or come for the day. Tell your friends and family to come and visit and get behind our one big annual fundraising event of the year.
THANK YOU TO OUR AMAZING P & C AND ALL PARENTS, FRIENDS, BUSINESSES, STAFF AND

End of Term Netball/Soccer Gala Day Just a reminder regarding our end of term year 3-6 Netball/Soccer Gala Day in Boonah. Students would have returned their forms to the Office by now and indicated if they are going on the bus or by private transport. The bus is now full, however students can still attend if they return their form and are transported by their own parent. We need to know this information as soon as possible. Students not attending will remain at school under supervision of teachers. School Photos School Photos are on this Thursday the 7th of September. Students need to be in full school uniform. Senior students may wear their Senior Shirts. White or black socks would also be preferable. Students are to bring photo money on the day and give directly to the photographer, unless of course you have paid online. Any sibling photos are being conducted at 8am in the Library. Behaviour It is always important to remind students of our school rules: ‘Be Safe’, ‘Be Respectful’, and ‘Be Responsible’. Our behaviour focus this fortnight is:
‘I am a safe, respectful and responsible student in the Playground’ If you ever have any suggestions or feedback regarding our whole school responsible behaviour plan, we would love to hear from you. Assembly Assembly is held each Monday, commencing at 9.15am. Please come along to hear our messages and to join in the celebration of students receiving awards. Visitors Just a reminder that all visitors, spending time at the school to assist with any school based activity, must sign in and out using the Visitors Book kept at the Office. This is an Education Queensland requirement to ascertain who is on the school premises at all times. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated. Feedback If you ever have any feedback you would like to provide, or any ideas or suggestions for our school, I would love to hear from you. I have an open door policy, so please don’t hesitate to contact me. School Security As we approach the school holidays, unless prior permission has been sought, nobody should be entering the school grounds outside of school hours. Anybody entering the school grounds outside the normal scheduled school hours is risking being prosecuted for trespassing. If you see anything, or anybody acting suspiciously outside of normal school hours, please contact School Watch on: 131 788; or Policelink on: 131 444. Alternatively, in the event of an emergency, contact 000 Have a fantastic fortnight and an awesome Spring break. Stay safe and see you in Term four.
