• Distance Learning and the Internet (DLI) Conference is a flagship activity

APRU Fellows on a field trip to Lake Biwa in Osaka
Fellows Program
• Annual two-week program that brings together junior faculty
• To promote knowledge exchange and build cross-national, multidisciplinary collaboration
• Involves scholarly discussions with synchronized field immersion experiences
• Held across two APRU member economies

Doctoral Students Conference• Annual conference driven by APRU Doctoral Students Network
• To encourage scholarly research in the Pacific Rim
• To provide an international platform for students to share and present their research

to facilitate exchange of knowledge and professional development of APRU researchers

APRU Senior Staff Meeting (SSM)
• Arose from a suggestion by APRU presidents at 2002 Annual Presidents Meeting
• Formation of a core group of dedicated senior staff to move APRU forward
• Annual governance meeting where senior staff of APRU universities review development and implementation of APRU initiatives

• Inaugural meeting at Stanford from April 13-15, 2004
• Attended by 36 senior staff from 25 APRU Universities
• Review of APRU programs and initiatives

SSM Objectives and Role of Senior Staff
• Drive the development and implementation of APRU programs and initiatives
• Review effectiveness of APRU programs and initiatives
• Play an active role in championing APRU initiatives
• Assist in identifying areas and action items which presidents could focus on in their discussions
• Work closely to further develop and enhance APRU’s effectiveness as a network

• Two working groups formed following 1st SSM
– Student Mobility
– Thematic Conferences

• Comprise senior staff from geographically representative APRU universities

2nd SSM
• Working groups to present proposals on student mobility and thematic conference
• Senior staff to discuss these proposals and agree on next steps
• Senior staff will also review entire spectrum of APRU programs and initiatives
• Proposals for new initiatives are welcome to be discussed
• Senior staff to take leading role in spearheading, evaluating APRU initiatives
