Urban Resilience as a Global Imperative
Amman, Jordan

100RC partners with cities around the world to help them become more
resilient to the social, economic and physical challenges that are a growing
part of the 21st century.

To help cities respond to the impacts of three worldwide trends:
URBANIZATIONUrban populations are growing rapidly: of an estimated global population of 9 billion by mid-century, 70% will live in cities. Many are in fragile ecosystems, and the number of people at risk is unprecedented.
GLOBALIZATIONCities are more interconnected than ever before, and a system failure in one city can cause problems across the globe.
CLIMATE CHANGEClimate change places new social, fiscal and political pressures on urban systems.
Bangkok, Thailand
WHY WAS 100 RESILIENT CITIES CREATED?
4
URBAN RESILIENCEIs the capacity of individuals, communities, institutions, businesses, and systems within a city to survive, adapt, and grow no matter what kinds of chronic stresses and acute shocks they experience.

100RC AIMS TO SOLVE TWO PROBLEMS:
1. Cities are complex, siloed ecosystems
2. Existing solutions do not scale or reach cities efficiently
6The 100RC Platform consists of tools and services that cities can draw upon to
develop and implement their resilience strategies
The 100RC Platform Catalog is currently composed of 65 partners, with 82 services for a total current value of over $100 million

WATER MANAGEMENT ISSUES—TOO MUCH AND TOO LITTLE
Rising sea levels, more storms, flooding and drought combined with increasing demand for services from rising urban populations
UNPRECEDENTED GLOBAL MOVEMENT
Nearly 60 million people are displaced around the world because of conflict and persecution, the largest number ever recorded by the United Nations.
These refugees represent only 7% of all international migrants.
