resources come from all over the world.• This is part of GLOBALIZATION• People and resources from around the world

work together to produce goods that are used around the world.

Why are so many products NOT made in the U.S.?

Companies have 5 things to worry about:1.Wages: how much to pay their workers?2.Labor: hire kids or adults?3.Worker rights: do we provide health care? How many hours do they work? Good working conditions or bad?4.Taxes: how much $$ do we want to give to the government?5.Environment: do we pollute or pay more to be more environmentally-friendly?

•In general, less wealthy and/or less developed countries offer companies more favorable conditions in all of these categories:• Lower tax rates, fewer govt. regulations, fewer labor &

environmental laws, etc.• They WANT to attract businesses to their countries to hire

their workers

• 3 levels of economic development–HIGH - “First World Countries”»EXAMPLE: United States, Canada, Japan
