Mikva Challenge Peace Action Grants 1
2015 Grant Application for
Youth-Led Peace Action Grants
Mikva Challenge, in conjunction with the Mayor’s Commission for a Safer Chicago, is proud to invite youth from across Chicago to apply for grants to support Peace Projects in their schools or communities.
Mayor Emanuel has made reducing violence a priority of his administration. In December 2015, the Mayor’s Commission for a Safer Chicago— a group of over 130 community and faith leaders, practitioners, subject matter experts, parents, and youth—released a report containing recommendations for reducing youth violence in 2015.
One of the Commission’s recommendations was to involve and empower youth to develop their own solutions to youth violence and ideas for promoting peace. Youth are the future and the solution! The City has committed $50,000 for a Youth Peace Grants program, through which young people can propose and receive funding for projects to promote peace in their communities.
We look forward to your participation!
For more information about this grant, please contact
jackie@mikvachallenge.org. Please submit your completed application to
peacegrants@mikvachallenge.org.
Mikva Challenge develops youth to be informed, empowered, and active citizens and community
leaders. We do this by engaging youth in action civics, an authentic and transformative learning
process built on youth voice and youth expertise.

Why Peace Action Grants?
While Chicago has made great progress in reducing violent crime, violence continues to
affect far too many of our city’s young people. The Mayor’s Office and Mikva Challenge
believe that there is a lot more we can do to reduce violence, and that to make
maximum impact, we must listen and support our young peace makers. But we cannot
just listen – through the peace grants program, these ideas will be put into action in
Chicago’s neighborhoods.
Youth Leaders Are Key
We are looking for determined and passionate youth to be recipients of these grants.
We want to support innovative youth who will take pride in knowing that they have
taken a step as leaders to make significant change in their city. No matter how big or
small, the change youth make can save lives and enlighten this city and its people.
Grant Overview and Award Seeker Requirements

peace
We encourage new ideas and innovation in this grant! Think outside of the box
