TASK SHEET
CONDITION AND RESIDUAL LIFE ASSESSMENTS
APPLICATION AND PURPOSE
Reference
Condition assessment describes the process of a qualified group of trained industryprofessionals performing an analysis of the condition of facilities to estimate the time theasset can remain in productive service. It provides a subjective estimate of existing plantcondition and the equipment fitness-for-service level.
3.5.1
IWK CURRENT PRACTICE
Reference
IWK have no current formal Condition Assessment & Residual Life Assessmentprocesses or activities.
4.3
IWK RECOMMENDED PRACTICE
Reference
It is recommended that IWK do not implement CARL on am asset-wide basis. CARL is notseen to provide added value if an effective maintenance system is in place. Amaintenance strategy for IWK is included in the CAMP, Section 5.11. Implementing aCARL in addition to an effective maintenance strategy including EEL would notnecessarily provide enhanced information on the effective and residual life of an asset.
However, IWK has to make a corporate decision if CARL is seen to be valuable in thecontext their asset management system. If adopted, IWK has to formally document theirCARL procedures, acceptance criteria, etc. in a document for wider dissemination withinthe company.
If required, development of an internal IWK Training Course for personnel involved inCARL Assessments will assist in standardising decisions on plant acceptability.
IWK to decide if external expertise is required to assist in initial implementation of CARL.

CURRENT ITC CAPABILITIES
If required, support data is available through the IFS system, such as asset hierarchy and operational, maintenance and inspection history.
IWK ACTION PLAN
Timeframe Reference
IWK to decide if CARL is a viable objective for roll-out of the CAMPgoals.
Short-term 5.3
If a viable option, IWK to develop a formal procedure for CARL toestablish assessment team requirements, competencies and conditionguidance levels.
Mid-term 5.3
IWK to develop an action plan based upon asset criticality for theimplementation and roll-out of CARL assessments.
Mid-term 5.3
IWK to determine whether external assistance is required to implementformal CARL.
Short-term 5.3
IWK TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
IWK CAMP Manual Overview Training
INITIAL CHAMPION ACTIVITIES
Reference
IWK Champion to manage the process of deciding whether CARL is valuable for the
organization. If so, potentially identify specialist external help.
Develop IWK CARL Documentation. WorleyParsons suggests that IWK utilise theattached high-level "Process Coordination Map" (PCM) as a starting point for theirownership of CARL and further develop their process and procedures.
Develop a criticality-focused list for assets intended for CARL implementation
5.3
ADDITIONAL/SUPPORT NOTES
Potential requirements for specialist third-party non-destructive testing, if required.
Potentially an area for specialist external support in the initial period of implementation.
