• Elective: A course that is not required, but selected because of interest. (2 courses)

• Alternate: Scheduling conflicts will result in the use of an alternate course. (2 different courses)

Focused Area (Think College Major)

• All Tennessee students are required to successfully complete an elective focus of 3 credits or more (in addition to graduation requirements). • Please refer to the back of p.1 of your

handout.• The focus area does not track students into a

required college or career.

What if my schedule is wrong?

• The master schedule is made on the basis of student course recommendations and elective requests received during registration.

• Normally, scheduling all of your student’s course requests is possible. Should unavoidable conflicts arise, students will be placed in an alternative request.

• If you have questions regarding the level of a required course, please direct those questions to your student’s current teacher.

• All students wishing to take a foreign language in 9th grade must be recommended for Honors (920) or CP (930) English.

Changing Schedules Once School Starts

• Schedules will be adjusted within the first ten (10) days of the fall semester for students who are misplaced in a course. A schedule change request form will be available in the school counseling/main office and online.

• Elective courses will be adjusted within the first ten (10) days of the fall semester. A schedule change request form will be available in the school counseling/main office and online.

• Changes in level can only take place prior to the end of the first quarter (1st 9 weeks) of the term through a collaborative process to include the student, parent, and teacher.
