During this month, clubs are urged to develop at least one club program to the Foundation. (RCP 8.020.) (MOP 2013)
November is the time to celebrate the wonderful work of The Rotary Foundation. It’s a good time to reflect on the Rotary Foundation sponsored programs we support and on how each of us can contribute to make sure these programs continue.
Challenge all of your members to be an EREY (Every Rotarian, Every Year) member.
• Honour TRF contributors of the club (PHF/MPHF/Major Donor, Etc)
• Talk about Rotary Foundation/TRF alumni.
• Participate in District Foundation Seminar.
• Contribution to TRF through Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY). A donation of $100 to the Rotary Foundation’s Annual Programs Fund can save the lives of 50 to 100 children. A donation of $1,000 can save the lives of 500 to 1,000 children.
• The Rotary Foundation also improves world understanding with Ambassadorial Scholarships and Cultural Exchange Programs.
• In addition, we make a big difference in Peace and Conflict Resolution through Rotary Peace Centers that educate Rotary Peace Fellows to become future leaders around the world.
Keep in mind that our own Rotary Clubs are representatives of the Rotary Foundation in our home communities, so all Rotarians are part of the Rotary Foundation.

Rtn Kirit JasaniKirit Jasani’s first introduction to Rotary International was through his brother and uncle who both were Rotarians. He was intrigued by the philosophy of the organisation that brought together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services and advance goodwill and peace around the world. In 1968, Kirit heard of a new Rotary club being formed in Mumbai (formerly Bombay) and decided to join. Following an interview with Shantibhai Zaveri, Kirit, was soon inducted as the youngest charter member of the Rotary Club of Bombay Mid-Town. Kirit and his wife Malini have been committed members of the Rotary. They have enjoyed supporting its charitable causes, participated in public relations and networking opportunities and built long-lasting friendships, like the one they share with Dr Shirish and Siloo Sheth, whom they met through the organisation. Malini, has been active in the Inner Wheel since its inception, has been a committee member and has also served as its Secretary. She fondly remembers working with its inaugural President Mrs Dahanukar and first Secretary Siloo Sheth. In 1975, the family’s diamond business took Kirit and Malini to Antwerp, Belgium where they spent the next 35 years. Kirit tried to continue as a Rotarian in Belgium but because of a language barrier decided to resign. He continued to remain friends with the Rotarians the Rotary Club of Bombay of Mid-Town on his frequent visits to Mumbai over the years. Kirit was born in Burma but moved to Mumbai soon after birth. Mumbai has always been home for him, where he went to school, where his siblings lived and where all his friends are. So after retiring in 2010, Kirit and Malini naturally returned to Mumbai. It was then that Kirit decided to re-join RCBMT and was immensely grateful to be welcomed by his fellow Rotarians as if he had never left at all. This year Kirit is the Director of Vocational Services and is looking forward to working under President RP Anand over the course of the current year. Malini and Kirit have three children and seven grand children. Their eldest daughter Aarti is married to Aashish, the son of Rotarian Kamlesh Sonawala and lives in Singapore. Their older son Aditya and his wife Deepali lived in Belgium for many years and have recently moved to Mumbai with their family. Their youngest son Anuj and his wife Nishita live in Hong Kong. Aditya and Anuj both work in the diamond and jewellery industry. When Kirit is not playing a round of golf, you will find him engrossed in a game of bridge. Bridge and Golf are his two passions, which he continues to pursue even today. Malini is also a talented bridge player and is considered a force to be reckoned with at the tables. She is a lover of the arts and is passionate about theatre, dance, paintings as well as textiles and tapestries. Malini and Kirit have a shared passion for cooking and entertaining, and are known to be gracious hosts. Kirit is a connoisseur of fine wines, a hobby he inculcated while living in Europe and considers Bordeaux wines among his favourites. He not only has a wonderful understanding and collection of wines but believes that they are best enjoyed over a gourmet home-cooked meal with good friends.
Kirit is also known for his quick wit and repertoire of jokes and shares one here for his Rotary friends: Two friends are sitting at the bar. One friend says to the other, “Did you know that in mating season, Lions make love, four five times a night?” His friend says, “Oh no! I just joined Rotary!”

International Youth Exchange 2015 - German Students in MumbaiAfter a five-month wait, our Germans sisters and brothers from the International Youth Exchange Program arrived at Mumbai Airport on 19th October to be greeted with screams, hugs and laughter.
The following three weeks were filled with interesting events and visits to places of interest in and around the city of Mumbai. Coming at the time of the festival of Navrati and Diwali being around the corner, our German friends had the opportunity to experience a Dandiya night as well as visit Ramleela and see the burning of Ravan. We had some interesting and fun-filled visits to places like Dhobhi Ghat, Taj Mahal Hotel, Museum, ISKCON temple, Afghan
Church, TS Jawahar, Mani Bhavan, etc. We all saw interesting work being done by the Rotary Club of Bombay Mid-Town at NASEOH and at the villages of Potakhal and Baste. At the villages we all had great fun, not just seeing the village life but also experiencing it with rangoli making, drawing water from well, grinding grain, singing and dancing with the villagers, visiting the village school, etc. Most of us students from Mumbai too had their bit of learning through these visits as despite having lived in this city for all our lives, it was our first visit to many of these places, which we would have never dreamt of visiting otherwise. An exciting Zumba and a serene Yoga
session were also organized that exposed our German friends to the modern forms of fitness as well as traditional forms signifying how Indians have accepted and adapted new styles but stick to our roots. The highlight of the trip was a two-day visit to a farmhouse at Surat, during which we all had the unique opportunity to visit diamond cutting and textile factories and got a chance to shop from the famous textile markets of the city. With this, our guests also observed that unlike Germany, most places in India have a completely different culture and set up as compared to the other. Most were intrigued as to how things differ within Mumbai city itself! Thanks to the change in families, they understood how different cultures play a role in mannerisms and living style, which is so diverse and varies with each family in the same city! They enjoyed our great cuisine, music and dancing with Diwali dinners replete with firecrackers and mehendi evening with dholki and singing.
At the farewell dinner at ‘The Village’ restaurant, as each one shared their experiences of the three weeks here, we realized how small things we generally take for granted add to the vibe of the place and may seem so fascinating to those who’ve never had a taste of it earlier. Cows on the streets of Mumbai, camels in Surat, the warmth of their Indian families and loving care of host parents filled their hearts with happiness and brought tears to their eyes, as well as ours, while bidding goodbye.
This Exchange has touched the lives of the students as well as their families and has definitely impacted the life of us youngsters and taught us to view our city, country and a lot of other things differently. Today, we see a change in the way we view ourselves and others, learning to accept things and trying to make a change in the way we look at things. For us students, it is not the end
youth exchange
of a wonderful Exchange but a whole new perspective of life and the way we view things with strong bonds formed and friendships that will hopefully last forever.
We see this even after parting ways as lanterns and diyas from India lit the homes of our German friends during the festival of Diwali while some of us Indians are eagerly waiting for Christmas this year to decorate our houses and celebrate the festival in a more traditional way than we did otherwise.

The Government has approved Gold Monetisation scheme to reduce the gold’s demand in its physical form and fish out idle gold lying with households and other institutions. Gold collected through the scheme will be made available to jewellers for manufacturing of new jewellery and other items.
Around 800-1,000 tonnes of gold is imported annually and people hold such quantum of idle gold just for investment purpose every year. By taking advantage of gold monetisation scheme, people can deposit idle gold with authorised agencies and take advantage of the price escalation of gold as well as earn interest on the deposit.
On behalf of the Government, the sovereign gold bonds will be issued by the Reserve Bank of India. Distribution agencies will pay distribution cost and sale commission to the intermediate channels, which will be reimbursed by the Government Subject to the conditions that, the bond will be restricted to being issued to resident Indians only and the cap on bonds would be no more than 500 grams per person per year.
Features• Nominal rate of interest linked to international rate
for gold borrowing. The principal and interest of the deposit under the scheme will be denominated in gold.
• Issuance for a period of 1-15 years. Minimum period for Gold Savings Account will be one year. There will be provision for premature withdrawal subject to a minimum lock-in period and penalty to be determined by individual banks.
• Interest payable after 30 days of opening of the account.
• Capital gains tax will be the same as for physical gold for individual investors. This means that short-term capital gains tax will apply if you sell within three years. The profits will be added to your income and taxed at income slab. Long term capital gains tax is 20 per cent with indexation
• The bonds will be issued in denominations of 2, 5, 10 grams of gold. The minimum deposit at any one time shall be raw gold (bars, coins, jewellery excluding stones and other metals) equivalent to 30 grams of gold of 995 fineness.
