Findings related to women in treatment from the first calendar year of CalOMS data

Based on admissions to and discharges from publicly funded treatment programs in California during 2006 as submitted by counties and direct providers to CalOMS

Population Characteristics Admissions to publicly funded treatment

programs in California during 2006: 76,204 women (36%) 135,122 men (64%) General population: 50% women & 50% men

Age of women in treatment: 48% were between 18 and 35 years old 75% were between 18 and 45 years old

Women with children: 60% had children under 18 years of age 35% had children 5 years of age or less
