A Wet and WindyHarvest for

Puddles

Gill VaiseyIllustrations by

Louise Gwillym

Puddles loved windy days. They were so muchfun -

especially in autumn when there were so manyleaves to play with.

There were big red ones with crinkly edges,

bright yellow ones

that shone in the sun,

tiny green ones, shiny and smooth,

and crispy brown ones thatsometimes stuck to a paw!

The churchyard was a great place to play. There were all sorts of trees and all sorts ofleaves.

The Reverend Freddie Fisher walked up the path to the big arched door of the church. Itcreaked as he turned the handle and opened it.

Puddles noticed the open door and quickly ranthrough it. To her, playing inside the church wasalmost as much fun as playing in the churchyard.

First, Puddles found the cloth which hung downfrom the pulpit. She flicked the gold tassels andwatched them dance in the air.

To the side of the pulpit, she saw the huge display of fruit and vegetables ready for theHarvest service.

Puddles spotted the red and green apples amongst the carrots and potatoes.

She crept up to a small green apple and flicked itaway from the carrots.

It rolled like a balldown the aisle ofthe church andlanded in frontof the people

who werejust coming

in.

Meet Puddles – a very mischievous cat.Puddles enjoys playing in the autumn leaves

but not content to play outside, she joins the congregation ofthe Reverend Freddie Fisher’s church for the Harvest service

and then the fun really begins…
