ACTIVITY SHEET
Instructions
• Clay - natural clay or mud can be dug from the ground, or any clay including air dried mixed with a small amount of sand or water.
• Natural materials, sticks, twigs, seeds, flowers, grass, leaves,
• Trees or an outdoor wall to put clay faces on to.
• Fingers!
• A bowl of water for post face making clean up, or wet wipes.
• Take a handful of clay and pat it on to the tree or the wall.
• Shape however you would like, a ball shape makes a good round face, or you can make individual eyes, nose and mouth with the clay of you prefer.
• Decorate your face with your natural materials - be as creative as you like!
• You could make a family of faces, or make your own face on a class clay face collage!

PINE CONE ARCHERY STAND
blog.muddypuddles.com/category/schools Resources for Schools, 2016, Muddy Puddles
ACTIVITY SHEET
Instructions
• Plenty of pine/fir cones! If no access to pine cones, then small pebbles, shells, etc can be used.
• String or rope of four different colours, suggested lengths of 5m, 3m, 1.5m, 1m
• An area around 3m x 3m.
• A board/large card for recording scores.
• Set up your ‘target’ by making a large circle with your 5m rope. Inside this circle creat another smaller circle with the 3m rope, then making your final circle inside with your 1.5m rope. The inner circle is your bull’s eye!
• Set up an archers mark, use your 1m rope to set up a line approximately 1.5 metres away from your outer circle. If the archers are very small, this mark can be closer!
• The outer circle is worth 5 points, the second circle worth 10, and the bull’s eye worth 20 points.
• Have a bucket of pine cones at the ready. The archer is supplied with 5 or 10 pine cones, depending on your generosity and time!
• The archer simply throws the pine cone towards the circles, aiming at the inner circle.
• Record the archers score and reward your archer with a prize of your choice or kudos for having a great arm!

THE GREAT BIG PUDDLE SPLASH
blog.muddypuddles.com/category/schools Resources for Schools, 2016, Muddy Puddles
ACTIVITY SHEET
Instructions
• A shallow tray or paddling pool (sides must be low enough to jump over the sides!)
• Mud
• Water
• Wellies
• Natural markers (twigs/stones etc)
Materials Needed
• Mix the mud with the water to form a big messy puddle in your container, try to have at least 3 inches of puddle water, this makes for better splashing.
• Get your adult to test the puddle, make sure it’s not too slippery!
• Get the children to pop on the wellies and jump with all their might to force the water out of the puddle and onto the ground, make sure there is someone watching to see how far the water goes.
• Using the natural markers you can mark the position of the water and then the distance can be measured with “wellie footprints” of the sensible adult or a ruler if preferred. Results can be recorded on paper or for extra fun, using chalk on the playground! This sets the standard of competition, each jumper needs to get further than each other to win.
• When all jumpers have finished you can see who has
got the further distance and they are the winner!
