George Pearlman, USA (VSC Executive Director)

In painting as in reality theappearance of space istwo dimensional and theexperience ismultidimensional. Inpainting we call thisphenomenon plasticity. Inthe dynamics of thisspatial experience lies the

expressive value of a painting . It reflects the artistsdeepest feelings and touches on his/her everyexperience. I have found in my painting the more Ipush to explore these feelings the more I haveattempted to capture a more expressive interpretationof the visual experience. Abstraction frees the spirit toallow for the deepest exploration of this expressiveexperience.www.vermontstudiocenter.org/georgepearlman

Yinka Shonibare MBE, Artist “The greatest gift you can give an artist is time in the studio to explore his/her imagination. The Gihon River Collective has created its own simple but effective initiative embodying artists supporting artists.

They are offering an opportunity for a peer to have this time through money raised from the sales of Small Works

that they have each donated. Away from daily distractions artists and writers can work on their aesthetic and

political concerns and take the next step to a broadening global artistic practice. All of the exhibitors of COPYO9O9

have had that experience as offered by a residency at the Vermont Studio Center, USA.

Now they want to give someone else that time. I hope you will join me in supporting their cause. ”
