College presents new challenges for those with ADHD,but it doesn't mean you have to struggle. Create a planto help you thrive so that you can take advantage of all
of the new opportunities.
ADHD & College10 Tips for Success
Attendance matters. Make it part of yourroutine. Even if it feels too easy or boring. You will gain a lot by going. You havedirect access to the material and theprofessor. It also shows the professor thatyou are motivated to learn, which can helpif you need additional assistance later.
Go to class
Sign up for classes when it the easiest foryou to pay attention & when you can getthere on time. Coming in late, skipping, ornot being able to pay attention preventsyou from learning. It's better to not take aclass, than face the stress of failing it andtaking it again later.

Lack of sleep makes ADHD symptomsworse. Keep a consistent sleep routineeven if your schedule changes daily.Sleep deprivation results in it taking
longer to get work done and the qualitysuffers.
SleepCheck in with your parents about how
you are doing. Being around newpeople, situations, and experiences can
be overwhelming. It's hard to know ifyou are "doing enough." Parents can
provide support and a valuableperspective.
Parent Support
Alcohol consumption creates morenegative effects for students withADHD. It increases symptoms of
ADHD, like impulsiveness. Also, mixingalcohol and other drugs with ADHD
medication can result in dangerous sideeffects.
Reduce AlcoholDon't wait until a crisis happens to get
support. Use resources available to youfrom the beginning of the semester(study groups, office hours, tutoring,
counseling, etc). You'll spend less timeand energy preventing a crisis. If youneed to make changes, it's better to
have plenty of time left in the semester.
