City Introduction—Guangzhou

Guangzhou is the capital and a sub-provincial city of Guangdong Province in the southern part of China. The city is also known by an alternative English name, Canton. It is a port on the Pearl River, navigable to the South China Sea. As of the 2000 census, the city has a population of 6 million, and a metropolitan population of roughly 8.5 million, making it the most populous city in the province and the third most populous metropolitan area in mainland China.

Zhuhai is a prefecture-level city on the southern coast of Guangdong province in China. Located in the Pearl River Delta, Zhuhai borders Jiangmen to the northwest, Zhongshan to the north, and Macau to the south. Zhuhai is also one of China's premier tourist destinations, being called the Chinese Riviera. What’s more, Zhuhai has become the most livable city in China.

Really productive and inspiring to see the children so interested in the project! No bad feedback at all! It really moved me to see everybody attend our ‘walk for autism’ event. Saying goodbye is becoming more difficult. It feels soooo weird to be back in London! Those six weeks flew by and now it feels like such a blur. I don’t want to leave this beautiful country. China is my second home!

It was one of the most important experience I‘ve ever had in my life. Not just the opportunity to be living with an awesome Chinese host family, but also all the AIESEC members were very important for this experience. Because of their initiative we were always in contact with the Chinese culture and learning about the Chinese life on their day-by-day in Zhuhai, Mainland China! What a journey! What a great experience! AIESEC SYSU — Thanks for all of your effort! Enjoy life!!!

EP Feedback

It was really an amazing experience because you could see your efforts are actually affecting the children. They were smiling and had fun and I really enjoyed giving them knowledge by teaching in a creative way.

The teaching and preparation improved my speaking in front of people and encouraged me to do it more often having these good experiences in the background. I also liked it to take responsibility and show leadership within the group and that was one of the most important reasons why I took the project. I love the classes where I could think, becoming a teacher, and spread some useful knowledge to the students in Zhuhai. Experiencing China in GPN was more than meets the eye.
