1. Today, polyurethanes can be found in virtually everything

we touch—desks, chairs, cars, clothes, footwear, sporting

goods, appliances, beds as well as the insulation in our

walls and roof and moldings on our homes.

2. Polyurethane is often referred to as PU or PUR.

3. Since 1995, all polyurethane foams have been CFC-free

in the EU. Since 2003, they have been HCFC free as well.

4. NASA Developed special types of Polyurethane Foam to

protect and insulate the external fuel tank of the space

shuttle. The 1" layer of foam on the outside of the external fuel tank helps keep 395,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen at a

very cool -423 degrees Fahrenheit.

5. Polyurethane can be made into both flexible and rigid forms encompassing the shore hardness scale from cushion

soft to extremely hard.

6. PU flexible foam

is often used in

automobile, furnitu

re and sports industries.

7. PU Foam is widely used to safely protect and transport

many items, such as electronic and medical diagnostic

equipment, delicate glassware and large industrial parts.

8. Polyurethane foam gives

excellent performance

such as

abrasion resistance,

impact resistance,

oil resistance,

cold resistance,

acid and alkali resistance

and anti-aging.

9. No matter how polyurethane

is transformed, the underlying

chemistry is the result of one

man’s genius, Prof. Dr. Otto

Bayer (1902-1982).

Prof. Dr. Otto Bayer is

recognized as the “father”

of the polyurethanes industry

for his invention of the basic

diisocyanate polyaddition

process.

10. A 1.6cm-thick polyurethane insulation panel has the

same insulation efficiency as a 1.34m-thick concrete wall!

11. The perforated flexible PU foam is a very good acoustic

damper. Compared to the traditional materials, it can

reduce noise by 50%.

12. Relevant investigation shows that because polyurethane

material is not only durable, but also has high strength and

light weight, more and more car manufacturers are willing

to replace traditional materials with polyurethane, so as to

reduce the car weight on the prerequisite of ensuring the

safety factor, and thus reduce gasoline consumption and

pollutant gases.

13. Akutek Technologies supply PU components to in a

number of different industries from Automotive to Packaging, from Saddlery to Luxury Yachts.

14. The memory pillow

which become popular in

recent years, it is also a

kind of flexible PU foam,

referred to as polyurethane

slow rebound. The material

of polyurethane slow

rebound is a kind of open

memory particles of warm

sense which follows the

body contours

15. The polyurethane industry employs over 800,000 people

in the EU.

16. Akutek Technologies use PU foam for rapid prototyping

parts and developments.

17. A major advantage of

moulded polyurethane foam lies in its ability to

be prototyped from

low-cost tooling

(in comparison with

rubber or thermoplastic materials). These tools

are usually made from

rapidly machined

aluminium or aluminium

resin. PU tooling is only around a 10th of that of

plastic injection

moulding because of the

lower pressures involved.

18. Polyurethane potting compounds are specially

formulated by developers to meet a diverse range of

physical, thermal and electrical properties. They can

protect electronics by providing excellent dielectric and

adhesive properties, as well as exceptional solvent, water

and extreme temperature resistance.

19. Akutek not only supply PU manufactured parts but also design and manufacture all the required tooling.

20. Akutek Polyurethane Mouldings have built up the enviable

reputation of being one of the UK’s most responsive and

technically advanced moulders of PU foam components. We

work primarily with product design engineers, product developers and buyers to produce dedicated PU tooling and PU

parts to their exacting specifications.

Thank You!
