This particular physical model was central to the understanding of how this surface was performing and where to begin developing a proposal for the site. Through aggregating the surface as a continuous entity, not as a combination of surfaces removed from the circumstances of the forces that created them, a clear understanding of my surface as a machine was developed. This machine begins to twist and rotate, with its scale steadily increasing, developing a layer cake of sharp interconnected surfaces along its periphery, and an interior of flat open spaces. The model was limited in its means for circulation, its relation to the ground and the context of the site, but the emphasis on the surface as a continuous entity found its way into the final proposal.

Coney Island is divided into four distinct zones. The first, the water, becomes important when noting the tendency of lines to act and react as singular forces. One black line moving to the left results in the changing geometry of the grey and white lines at its base. One black line bursting towards the top of the page throws grey and white lines in a circling frenzy. The beach becomes a zone of gathering and accumulation, where lines begin to orient themselves based on their surroundings. The boardwalk organizes lines to overlap over one another. Bolder lines indicate pressures and lighter lines indicate linear trajectories across the zone. The amusement park, or the machine, organizes lines along a completely continuous flow, eventually combining all lines into one entity. Lines lose their individual character.
Site of Change
In its latest phase, the surface produces an excess of planes, folded in several ways on the left side, while stretched and bended on the right. These folds create divisions but at the same time create an interconnected network that pushes the planes upwards and through, where flatter surfaces gently overlap and interlock. The surfaces then begin to collide and push upwards and downwards in more localized instances, as the entire flow begins to gravitate towards the left. These collisions meet at specific points and form bridges in and along one part of the surface and the other. Finally the surface curves inwards and upwards as the surface continues to gently collide in the same fashion. The excess in the surface lies along the congested curvelinear trajectory of where the planes are headed, and where they collide.

Design: Exploded AxonOur final design combined our best material choices, creating a highly insulative structure. Based on theses materials superior thermal resistance, we are able to maintain a comfortable temperature through passive means, while the windows and light shelves allow more than adequate daylight to permate the offices.

Design: Wall Sectionthe interior light shelf is successful in refracting light past the normal sunlight range particularly during the winter solstice. This is also apparent during the fall/spring equinox, although only during teh morning hours. During the summer, the light comes in at too steep of an angle for the light shelf to refract any light, but less light is preferrable during the summer.

To respond to the condition of a bridge building crossing above a busy interstate highway, as well as the challange of designing for different speeds, we designed a supermarket that teases out the potentials of a pixelated surface.
To a driver, our building appears as a singular rectangular object , yet breaks down and pixelates as one approaches. When a driver takes the off-ramp, these pixels transform into sinuous, stretched surfaces that define walls, roof, and interiors.

Pixelated SupermarketRenderings
No trace of the pixels remain at the entrances of the supermarket,
which is accessible from the parking lots on either side of the
bridge.
The interior consists of two main sets of aisles, which are supported
by vierendeel trusses. These two main areas are connected in the
middle by a series of smaller bridges, also supported by smaller
trusses. These spacesare set aside for local vendor
stands, as well as eating spaces for customers. Along the edges of the interior, where the pixels are visible
from the inside, the small spaces hollowed out by the pixels act as more shelving for products, and
offer views of the highway and the surroundings. These sinous,
nature of the building layout pulls customers through the building in
an experience unique to a supermarket.
For storage, facilities, and supplying the supermarket, an underground
cellar is found underneath the berm which supports the building on
either side of the highway.

URBAN CANYONProfessorCarlos Arnaiz
Is it possible to integrate leisure and housing in the 21st Century?
The typology of New York City housing towers presents challenges for traditional scenarios, as residents have little horizontal space with which to flex their legs. However, what if we were to think in terms of vertical space instead of the horizontal?
The activity of climbing through crevices is made possible by carefully arranging housing units, which allow for light and adequate living space. As one climbs up the tower, the housing units transition from many two and three bedroom flats to few studios and penthouse apartments. Three stories arereserved as public space for climbers and residents. The facades rough textture allows for privacy through the small glass openings while allowing for scattered light to pass through. The solid parts of these walls serve as climbing surfaces for the athletes.

Taking inspiration from microscopic natural phenomena, We sought to explore ways in which geometries can transform under certain conditions. For example, a pattern laying flat on a table, to then be lifted or dragged up to form something that can support itself and define space.
Through precise 3D Modeling, we designed rotatable joints attached to hinges. Each stand-alone module is attached to the other and is printed as such, with no assembly necessary. Using animation software, we were able to test multiple configurations and the outcomes of their movement. This showcases an entire array of new design possibilites and experiments.

This project explored the potential of digital animation through kinetic manipulation. Using Maya software,a digital model based on Santiago Calatravas Wettstein Bridge was morphologically enhanced through a series of formal investigations. A short 2 minute film was created and is available for viewing online:

The Bedford Union Armory can be found on Bedford Avenue between President Street and Union Street in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Originally owned by the state, it is now up for sale to developers. The Crown Heights Armory Group was concerned that future developments will ignore the context, history, and needs of the community.
They commissioned me to visualizing the armory as community center, complemented with residential towers inspired by art deco skyscrapers. The drawings are now used to inspire groups at community meetings to get peopleinvolved and try to turn some of these ideas into reality.

While working at Rampulla Associates Architects, I have had the opportunity to work on a wide range of tasks. I have made simple changes and redlines to schematic design, design development, and construciton drawing sets. I have initiated preliminary research at the start of new projects. In a limited capacity, I have helped put together sets of drawings and presentations for the BSA and DEC. I have helped collect material samples for possible implementation in projects, and I have occasionally answered Dept. of Building Objections. These are a sample of the tasks I have completed.
The following is a small project for a cabana that I created all the drawings for, with the help of my coworkers.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLProfessorTheo David
This building engages two distinct contexts through its changing response to the sidewalk.. The school faces Brooklyn Borough Hall, which boasts a larger, monumental scale, with its own solid, impermeable facade. A collonade faces Brooklyn Heights, which is characterized by smaller residences. This colonnade is permeable depending on the schools needs, and contains special classrooms on the second floor. Both zones meet through a linear circulation corridor, whichis covered in glass.
