At the Brisket Cases barbecue cook-off tent, it truly is
all about the kids. For the past 10 years, the Brisket
Cases tent has hosted a luncheon for children with
special needs the Sunday before the World’s Champi-
onship Bar-B-Que Contest kicks off.
This year, Brisket Cases has promised to donate all of
the proceeds from their tent, which is almost
$250,000, to the Houston Livestock Show and
Rodeo™ educational fund.
“We are very proud that we are able to donate as
much as we can to the kids; that’s what this is all
about,” Billy Honea of Brisket Cases said. “We feed
the kids with special
needs at the event and
at the WCBBQ; they
look forward to it
every year. The big-
gest thing for us is to
give back to the
kids.”
Brisket Cases credits
their success to the
hard work from their
team and the support
from their donors.

Keeping Their Eye On The Prize
Most cook–off teams come out to the World Championship
Bar–B–Que Contest with hopes of winning a grand
champion title in a cooking category, but some teams have
their sights set on other awards.
Every year, cook-off teams can compete in several specialty
categories like Most Colorful Team, Most Unique Pit,
Cleanest Team Area, Recycling and Best Team Skit.
One particular team, The
Ram’s Club, are back with
determination to reclaim the
title of Most Colorful and
Cleanest Team Area.
“We have won in at least one
of these categories five out of
the last seven years,” said James Petty with The Ram’s
Club. “We didn’t win anything in 2013 so for 2014, we are
going all out.”
All of the funds
raised through The
Ram’s Club go
towards purchasing
lambs and goats
during the Lamb &
Goat Auction at the
Houston Livestock
Show & Rodeo™.

The Tradition Continues...
Some teams may bring all of their wood for their
barbecue pits, but the Orange County BBQ team
brings the wood in form of chairs for everyone to
enjoy outside of their tent at the World’s
Championship Bar-B-Que Contest.
Glenn Hughes, a longtime supporter of the Orange
County BBQ Cook-off tent, built all of the wooden
chairs outside of the tent as well as the bar for their
guests.
Hughes is dedicated to giving back to the Houston
Livestock Show and Rodeo™, especially since he
was a scholarship recipient in 1978.
“I was awarded a $1,500 which meant a lot to me at
that time,” said Hughes. “I am excited that I get to
continue to participate with Houston Livestock Show
and Rodeo and build the furniture for our tents.”
In addition to building furniture, Hughes also built a
large wooden bull for people to ride.
“I first built a life-size
wooden horse that we
brought out here that
everyone enjoyed riding
until it was pretty much
worn down,” Hughes said.
“We replaced the wooden
horse with bull that every-
one loves.”
