COPYSHOPPY.COM PRESENTS…

CLEANING UP A MESS REBRANDING YOUR BUSINESS

SO YOU’RE THINKING OF REBRANDING YOUR BIZ

I SAID SO YOU’RE THINKING OF REBRANDING YOUR BIZ

WELL, THE GOODS NEWS IS YOU’VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE!

THE BAD NEWS IS YOU’VE STILL GOT TO REBRAND

OR DO YOU?

STEP 1 ASK YOURSELF THE TOUGH

QUESTIONS •  Does my company need to rebrand, or is my product

not solving a large enough need in the marketplace? •  Instead of rebranding, do I need to focus my time on

improving my product or service? •  Instead of rebranding, do I need to start a new

company with a new product or service? •  Are my marketing efforts in generating brand

awareness the problem?

STEP 1 (CONT…) ASK YOURSELF THE TOUGH QUESTIONS

•  If you need to rebrand due to trademark issues, or you’ve asked yourself the tough questions and still feel the need to rebrand, move to Step 2.

YEP. YOU’VE GOT TO REBRAND.

STEP 2 NEW BUSINESS NAME, TAGLINE

AND AVAILABLE DOMAIN

•  The next step after deciding to rebrand is to start the rebranding process (duh) – this begins with deciding on a new business name, URL & tagline.

•  You can host a Business Name, Tagline and Available Domain Name contest on CopyShoppy to set the foundation for your rebrand all at once.

STEP 2 NEW BUSINESS NAME, TAGLINE

AND AVAILABLE DOMAIN

•  Before approving your new business name and tagline, make sure to double check the U.S. and Canadian trademark databases to avoid any potential issues in the future.

STEP 3 NEW LOGO

•  Now it’s time to get the face of your new brand developed.

•  Hire an expert freelance logo designer, run a logo design contest, or hire a creative agency to get the perfect logo.

•  Work closely with your logo designer when developing your logo – your new logo design style, font and colors will set your new brand design identity moving forward.

STEP 4 BEGIN NEW WEBSITE

DEVELOPMENT

•  Hire a web designer and developer to begin developing your new brands website.

•  The design style of your website should be the same design style of your logo (E.g. If your logo is a playful style, the design style of your website should also be playful).

•  You can host a Website Writing contest on CopyShoppy to get the perfect content for your website

•  Tell your developers to provide a hard deadline for the completion of your new website so you can plan the rebrand launch.

STEP 4 BEGIN NEW WEBSITE

DEVELOPMENT

STEP 5 SET YOUR LAUNCH DATE

•  Now that your new website is under development with a date of completion, it’s time to schedule the launch date of your new brand.

•  Set your launch date 7 days after the hard deadline the developers have given you for website completion, just in case there are some hiccups during the web development.

AND THERE WILL BE.

“Yea so … we were like 99% done and then my computer spontaneously combusted and then I tried to put the fire out with my hard drive and then my hard drive exploded and then … basically we need 4 more days.”

STEP 6 NOTIFY YOUR BIZ NETWORK

•  Email your customers, vendors, blog subscribers, and all business affiliates about your pending name and brand change.

•  Be transparent in your communication and let your network know why you are rebranding and how the rebrand will benefit them.

•  In the email to your business network, clearly inform them of the new brand launch date.

•  Take this opportunity to further promote your business by including some words about any new products, services, etc.

STEP 6 NOTIFY YOUR BIZ NETWORK

•  Be sure to also write and share a detailed blog post on your company’s blog about the pending rebrand, including what the new name of your brand will be and how the rebrand will benefit your business network.

STEP 7 ISSUE A PRESS RELEASE

•  If you have any journalists, bloggers or writers in your network, send them each a personalized email with a press release about your company’s rebrand and launch date, and how the rebrand will benefit all your existing customers and partners.

•  If you don’t have any journalists or bloggers in your network, consider issuing an online press release via a press release distribution service.

•  Include your business contact information in case someone wants to write about your re-brand.

STEP 8 LAUNCH NEW BRAND

•  Launch your new name, tagline, logo and website on the launch date you set and informed your business network and audience about.

•  It’s a good practice to email your network once one day before the launch date as a notification and to build anticipation, and once more again on the day of the launch so they can explore your new brand and website.

•  Create a company blog post on your new website detailing the launch and point your network to this blog post in your email.

•  Develop and distribute one more press release detailing your old brand and your new one.

•  Distributing another press release online highlighting your old and new name is particularly useful in case someone is searching for your business using your old name on Google. The press release will come up in the search results detailing your new brand, with a link to your new website.

STEP 8 LAUNCH NEW BRAND

STEP 9 CONTINUE TO GROW YOUR BIZ

•  Now that you’ve seamlessly transitioned to your new brand and your business network is aware of your new name, tagline, logo and website, continue growing your business and being successful.

CONCLUSION •  The success of your business often hinges on your ability to turn a

negative business situation into an opportunity to grow, promote, and sell.

•  You must turn the rebranding of your business into an opportunity to further engage your business network to care about your products and services.

•  You do this by keeping your network in the loop about the rebrand, and by doing so, creating a sense of excitement for your business.

•  You should also use this opportunity to issue press releases, engage business writers, journalists and bloggers to increase your business and new brands awareness.

•  The transition to your new brand should be seamless. By notifying your network and issuing press releases throughout the process, you’re making sure nobody will look for you under your old name.
