London, July 30, 1941Diplomatic relations between the USSR and the Polish are restored and the formation of Polish army in the USSR becomes possible. August 4, 1941 from a Soviet prison in Lubyanka, General Wladysław Anders is released.

Buzuluk, August 23, 1941The recruitment committee begins work. The Polish prisoners of war and internees can join to the this Army.

Moscow, August 27 1941A military briefing of

army officers in the Polish embassy. The head is Wladysław Anders (b. August 11, 1892 in Blonie, d. May 12, 1970 in London).

Pahlavi, 24 March-4 April 1942Gen. Anders doesn't

want to send his army to the front, claiming that they are not prepared enough. Stalin agrees to the evacuation the of part of the army to Persia.

Mosul-Kirkuk, 1943Allies lacked soldiers and the Poles could be used to shield areas in the Middle East. September 21, 1943 they regrouped army forming 2 Polish Corps.

Palestine, August-September 19432nd Polish Corps arrived in Palestine where it was subordinated to the British Army. Later they went to Egypt. 14 December the army was sailed to Port Said, then to Europe.

Taranto, 21 December 1943The military housing

landed in Italy and fought in the Italian Campaign.

Monte Cassino, 11-29 May 19442nd Polish Corps took part in the Battle of Monte Cassino. Their task was to get a steep hill occupied by the Germans.

Bologna, April 1945The Second Corps took part in the Battle of Ancona and Apenin Emiliański. April 20 They crossed the river Giana and Idice. After this event, on the orders of the commander of the Poles they stayed in Bologna and they weren't engaged in the Italian Campaign any more.

United Kingdom 1946In 1946, the Second Corps was rolled back from Italy, and moved to Britain. There, one year later, in autumn 1947 Polish soldiers had to leave the Anders’ Army and find a place for themselves somewhere in the world.
