My mom does the sweetened condensed milk caramel thing, but in a
Dutch oven on the stove. Fill with water to cover the can and low boil for
an hour and a half on the stove. Delicious!

I just made these. The flavor is good, however, I found the cooking times and/or temp to not
work for me. I started cooking them at 350 for 12 min. They were still raw. 20 min still not
done. The package for the pie crust says 450 for 12 min. So I bumped up the temp to the
package instructions and they were burnt (probably because they were already partially
cooked, dur) . Also they did not puff up like in the photo. Somewhere I did something
wrong. Ill have to experiment I think. I think I will also try a cherry topping and serve withdark chocolate dip. Thank you for the recipe.

These came out great! I set the temp. to 425 degrees 350 degrees didnt sound right
using Pillsbury pie c rust. The only problem I had was, my husband and I couldnt stop
eating these! Thanks a lot! ha ha I made homemade caramel sauce for the dipping sauce.

I, too, was excited to try these even went to Williams-Sonoma to buy the fluted pastry
wheel and the fancy coarse sugar. Just as others have mentioned, this recipe took about
20 minutes to cook. Even one cup of apple pie filling was enough to ooze out the sides, but
when I reduced it a bit more, the fries had very little apple flavor. The caramel sauce made
them edible. Sorry, however, I wont be making these again. So disappointed.

I use green apples just boil them with a little water and some brown
sugar (sorry, I dont measure much). Just like caramelising. I use this
method for all recipes that use apples.

Hi! I made these, even after reading through the comments. I too found that a higher temp
worked better for me as did using less filling. I used about 3/4 cup (made 1 full but ended
up snacking on some ) total and had very little seepage when cutt ing. I did happen to
have sanding sugar on hand but I also had some Sweet Apple Sprinkle from Pampered
Chef which I used as well! Its delicious and I thought if I had the same no taste issue asan above commenter at least I had that sprinkled on it! After about 15 minutes at 450 they
were done for me! They turned out pretty well! This is a really really great idea!

down? I see a lot of the comments says It oozed out and even before I
read the comments I was wondering what stops that because the sides
wouldnt seal when cutting them because the filling is all over the pie

make many batches of these with several changes. They have become something
everyone in the family asks for. I did do the recipe as said the first time.. but not as good
as could be these are several ways I have mixed it up. Apple sauce same texture as
using the pie filling and much easier just add more cinno-sugar same taste cheaper and
easier. Want sauce to dip in ?? take the apple sauce or pie filling puree and mix in some
carmel topping tastes great and gives you more apple flavor I have used fresh blue
berries, raspberries and cherries just put in a pot with a small amount of water and some
sugar heat till bubbly then use a potato masher let cool a bit and use as a filling (and dip
too!!) Basically I made homemade jam/pie filling with a lot less fluid. Great recipe fun and
very easy to do. I do recommend following the heating directions with the box of pie crust
you get this recipe has the heat way too low I generally cook for 10 mins or less on
425 then one minute under the broiler. nice a crispy. and soft and fluffy on the inside

I made these today and they are really good. I used caramel apple pie filling and i used to
much- tried to keep it thin but mine leaked a little bit also. But they are still good with
caramel dip, my family loved them. I will make them again using less filling and also trydifferent flavors. I got my pastry wheel at Bed,Bath and Beyond for $5.00 and it worked

So I made these. The recipe called for a cup and a half of the filling which I found is too
much and it seeps out the sides when cut and made it difficult to transfer to the baking
pan. So to those out thereyou really only need about a half a cup of filling.

Look up Pie Crust on the internet and you should get a lot of answers.
Puff pastry would not and short crust is I think too heavy.

After Thanksgiving, filled with leftover butternut squash (with cinnamon, nutmeg and a bit of
sugar). Richer flavor than pumpkin in my opinion. And used home made pie crust from
scratch which only took about 7 minutes and avoided a shopping run.

You need to correct the recipe and specify that you do need the special cutter. These
turned out horrible because I followed the instructions you posted. If you dont crimp/seal
the edges, its going to leak. Remember, you are showing this to simple people who may
not be bakers(as you clearly are). They smell wonderful and taste good but they look
nothing like the picture. I like to think of myself as an above par baker-please dont waste
peoples money and time with false information.

It does appear that the crimping is decorative, but just let me say that you are an
extremely talented photographer then because there is no way that leakage isnt going to
be on these things and less filing is going to mean no taste whatsoever. Great attention
getter with the pic. but not so mouth watering tasting and perfect looking.

I am thinking of Peach pie filling as well. I have some apples that I might sauce myself and
use because I find apple pie filling to be too sweet.

I just discovered this recipe this morning so I havent tried them yet, but I am diabetic.
Therefore, I am going to skip the sugar salt, and Im going to use no sugar added apple
pie filling and add a little cinnamon. For the caramel dipping sauce I am going to use Sugar
free caramel ice cream topping ~ I often use this just to dip apple slices in. For those who
want to use something different than caramel for a different flavored filling, you might
consider a a fruit flavored cream cheese or thinning down a friut spread of jam.
Im heading to the store right now to get my ingredients! Thanks!

I just made them and we enjoyed them tremendously!!! I think I could
have used a smidgen less filling. I bought a tool @ WalMart made by
Wilton (the cake decor co) called a Fondant Cutter & Embosser. Little
white plastic thing with a couple of interchangeable wheels and it cost
less than $3. It sealed the edges as it cut ~ but this is why I think I
could have used a little less because some of them did leak a little
but no big deal.
Im considering trying a chunky no sugar added applesauce next time if
I can find on. The no sugar pie filling was excellent, but the applesauce
would just save the food processor step..it looks like applesauce

Hi, I was wondering: What sort of pie crust is Pillsbury exactly?
I really wanna do this because it looks delicious, but Im German so buying the crust you
recommended is sort of out of the question, so Ill have to buy another or just make my
own.
So is it like flaky/pastry? Or a different kind? Help?

I just made these. I did turn my oven up to 425 degrees too cook & it took them about 17minutes to cook & get golden & firm enough to handle. They are so good! I cut my apple
pie filling up with a knife. There were larger chunks than applesauce, but it was still fine & it
spread well. It didnt take much at all, really. Then cut it up with a straight edge pizza
cutter. Worked fine! They were served after dinner with a scoop of vanilla ice cream,
caramel drizzle & a small bit of what was left of the apple filling . It was a HUGE hit! Thank
you so much. Ill definitely be making these again! Quick & easy recipes that are delicious
are my favorite.
