Yerevan is the capital and largest city of Armenia and one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. Situated along the Hrazdan River, Yerevan is the administrative, cultural, and industrial center of the country. It has been the capital since 1918, the thirteenth in the history of Armenia. Yerevan was named the 2012 World Book Capital by UNESCO.

Yerevan, located in the Ararat valley at an altitude of 865 - 1400 m above sea level offers a beautiful perspective view of the giant peaks of Ararat and Aragats.

Yerevan History Museum is located in a building attached to the Yerevan City Hall

Founded in 1931, in 1936 the museum was moved to the Blue Mosque (Gyoy-Djami) where had functioned for sixty years. In 2005, the museum was established in a new building. It forms an architectural complex together with Yerevan Municipality.

The English famous writer George Gordon Byron was born in a noble family in London on January 22nd in 1788. In 1816 after travelling across Venice, he lived there for a while and got acquainted with the Armenian culture and Armenian abbots belonging to the Mekhitarists’ Order. With the help of the abbots he studied Armenian language and translated a number of religious and secular manuscripts from English into Armenian and vice versa as well as he participated in the compilation of the English-Armenian dictionary.
