BetoandTatoVerduscoarehalfbrotherswhoworktogetheratabananaplantationandlivewiththeirextendedfamilyinavillageinsouthernMexico.Whenthetwoofthemaresuddenly(andsomewhatimprobably)pluckedfromruralproletarianobscurityandturnedintoprofessionalsoccerplayersinMexicoCity,they

achievefameasRudoandCursi,nicknamesthatcanbetranslatedmoreorlessastoughandcorny.

“RudoyCursi”livesuptoitsname,asdoitssweetandscrappyheroes,whoareplayedwithanticenergybyDiegoLuna(Beto,thetoughone)andGaelGarcíaBernal(Tato,thecornyone).WrittenanddirectedbyCarlosCuarón,themovietellsitsstoryhaphazardlybutwithawinningmeasureofswaggerandstyle.Itmixessoap‐operasentimentalitywithplayful,jumpyaggressionanddressesabittersweet,rags‐to‐richesfableinthebrightclothesofpopsatire.

RenewalandHistoricPreservationinthe1960s.RVSP.

AlisonIsenbergbringsfreshperspectiveto1950‐1970surbanplanning,yearswhendesignprofessionalstriedtoremakeurbanrenewalandofferAmericanssomethingbetter.LookingcloselyatSanFrancisco—itsfightagainst“Manhattanization,”anditseffortstoforgealternativedevelopmentmodels—IsenbergexploreshowBayAreaurbandesignwasimmersedinthecrosscurrentsofsocialrevolution.

4:00‐6:00pm“IntrotoWheel”taughtbyJoyAginskyJoyAginskyisafunctionalpotter,creatingthrown‐alteredceramicsinspiredbythehighartnouveauera,botanicallife,andthemovementofline.HerpassioninceramicsbeganinherteensandshecompletedaBachelorofFineArtsinCeramicsfromtheUniversityofMassachusettsatDartmouthin2004.ShestudiedundernotableceramicartistsJamesLawtonandChrisGustin,andquicklydevelopedaninterestintheunpredictablebeautyofatmosphericfiring.Inthesummerof2004JoybeganteachingceramicsatBuck’sRockPerformingandCreativeArtsCamp,oneofthepremiereartcampsinthecountry.Whiledevelopingcommunicationthroughart,JoybecameinspiredwiththescienceofexpressionanddecidedtopursueaMaster’sDegreeinScienceforCommunicationDisordersfromSouthernConnecticutStateUniversity.Shecurrentlyenjoysacareerasaspeech‐languagepathologistwhereshecombinescreativityandresearchtohelpchildrencommunicatewiththeworldaroundthem.JoyhasbeenanactivememberoftheBabsoncommunityteachingceramicssince2007.Tuesday:(starting9/20andending11/29)

JosephineBurrisasculptorandceramicdesignerwith20years'experienceexhibitingandteachinginclay.ShereceivedherMFAin

Artisanry/CeramicsfromtheUniversityofMassachusettsDartmouth,andwasDirectorofEducationandStudioOperationsandArtist‐in‐ResidenceatGreenwichHousePottery,oneofthelargestandoldestceramicartcentersinNewYorkCity,from2002‐2007.Ms.BurrhastaughtatHarvardUniversity,UMassDartmouth,andBabsonCollegeaswellasnumerousartcenters,andexhibitedherworknationally.HerporcelainworkwasfeaturedinCalvinKlein'sHomeCollectionin2006.Inadditiontoherartwork,Ms.BurriscurrentlyChiefOperatingOfficerofAnomiaPress,asmallpublishingbusinessrunbyMs.BurrandherhusbandAndrewInnes.AnomiaPresspublishesandmarketstheMensaaward‐winningcardgameAnomia,whichcametomarketin2010andsoldover25,000copiesinitsfirstyear.Ms.Burr'sceramicsculptureincorporatesminimalistformswithrichlylayeredsurfaces,usingtraditionalceramicprocessesaswellasothermediasuchaswaxencaustic,graphite,andprinttransfers.Shefocusesonlayeringimageryandtexturetoevokeasenseofmemoryandtimeinherpieces.HerworkwillbeonviewinBabson'sHollisterGalleryinearly2012.

StephanieOsserisan“illustratorinclay.”ShestartedhercareerasillustratorfortheNewEnglandAquarium,illustratedchildren’sbooksandeventuallycametospecializeinfoodillustrationforcookbooksandeditorialsforNewYorkpublishers.StephaniereceivedherceramiceducationfromthefineteachersandsupportiveatmosphereoftheHarvardCeramicsStudio.Sheworksinporcelainandstoneware,specializinginbas‐relieftilesandhand‐builtsculpture.Sheoftenmakescastsofhermoredetailedpiecesandthenre‐usespartsofhermoldsinnewcreations.Herworkcelebratesspecialfamilymoments,musicalthemes,flora,fauna,andpeoplewhoinspireher.HerceramicshaveappearedinClayTimes,CeramicsMonthly,andarepublishedinLarkbooks:“500Pitchers”and“500AnimalsinClay.”Shehasexhibitedinmanyjuriedshowsacrossthecountry.In2006,shewasanartist‐in‐residenceattheWatershedCenterforCeramicArtsinMaine.SheiscurrentlystudiomanagerhereatBabsonCollege.SeeStephanie'sworkatwww.StephanieOsser.com
