In this document we will:

Understanding AreasTheATRIUMAccessControlsystemusesadifferentconceptinmanagingaccessrightsforcardholders.ATRIUMdeterminesuseraccessrightsbasedonareasdelimitedbydoors.

Forexample,thereception areaattheentranceofabuildingisconsideredanarea.Aroomordepartmentsuchasaconference room or shipping department areotherareas.

Users(cardholders)aregrantedordeniedaccesstotheseareaduringspecifictimeperiodsusingschedules.

Anotherexampletohelpunderstandareasarecountries.CountriesareseparatedbyinternationalborderssuchastheborderbetweenCanadaandtheUSAandtheborderbetweentheUSAandMexico.

Eachcountryisanarea.Thesecountriesareequivalenttoareasinabuilding.InATRIUM,doorsareconsideredbordersbetweenareas.

Whenenteringacountry,aborderguardwillpermitordenyaccesstothecountryaccordingtostrictcriteria.

WithATRIUM,anaccessreaderwillactinthesamemannerasaborderguard.Itwillgrantordenyaccesstotheareaaccordingtostrictaccessrights.

Inaddition,allcountrieshaveseveralentrypointssuchasairports,seaportsandterrestrialbordercrossings.Thisisalsotrueforsomeareasinabuildingwhereseveraldoorsgiveaccesstothesamearea.

ATRIUM’sdoormenupermitsustodefinewhichareasarelocatedonbothsidesofthedoor.Asshowninthefloorplanonthenextpage,twodoorsleadtotheshippingarea.Onedoor(door7)isfromtheexteriorofthebuildingtotheshippingdepartmentandanother(door6)isfromthehallwaytotheshippingdepartment.Bothdoorsleadtothesamearea.

1. Creating Areas

*Notethatthewords«Areas»and«Partitions»aresynonyms.Theymeanthesamething.

ClicktheAreasiconandaddareas(clicktheAddbutton)asdepictedbelow.

• Refertothefloorplanonthepreviouspagetonametheotherareas.• Althoughthefloorplanincludesacafeteria,itis notarestrictedarea.Thisisapublicaccessarea.Areaderor

request-to-exitdevicearenotinstalledforthisarea.Therefore,itisnotnecessarytoaddtheCafeteria area to thesystem.

Nameeachdoor(Display name field)asshowninthelistandindicateside Aandside Bareasusingthefloorplanprovided.Notethatside Aisthearealocatedbeforethedoor(readerside)andside B(rexside)isthearealocatedontheothersideofthedoor.Repeatforeachdoor.

3. Create SchedulesThehighlightedschedulesinthelistbelowshowtheMon - Fri 7:15 to 4:15andMon - Fri 8:00 to 5:00schedules.ClicktheADDbuttontocreatetheseschedules.

TheschedulebelowwillbevalidMondaytoFridayfrom7:15AMto4:15PM.ThisschedulewillbeusedtopermitaccesstotheReception & Hallway,Productionandshippingareas.Double-clickthecalendartoaddtimeperiodsforeachday.

Holidays

Holidayscanimpactaschedule.Forexample,ifChristmasfallsonaweekday,theholidaywilloverridethenormalexecutionoftheschedule.Inmostinstances,anemployeewillbepermittedaccessweekdaysbutwillbedeniedaccessifChristmasdayoccursonaweekday.

Wemanagethisbyexcludingaholidayfromaschedule.ClicktheHolidaystabintheschedulemenutoexcludeaholiday.Inversely,includingaholidayinaschedulewillpermitthescheduletoremainactive(orvalid)evenifthedayisaholiday.

Add holidays (special days) to the schedule by including them. For example, an annual inventory day is added to the schedule by including a holiday. inventory day will occur on a saturday and will permit employees access only on this particular saturday. normally, employees are denied access on saturdays. Employees will be granted access only on the day/date specified defined in the holiday. Simply create the holiday and add it to the included Holidays section of the schedule.

Remove holidays (special days) from the schedule by excluding them. For example, deny access to the employees on Christmas Day even if the day falls on a weekday. Employees will be denied access on Christmas Day even if it is a Wednesday. Create the holiday and add it to the Excluded Holidays section of the schedule.

Notethatoneholidaycanspanseveraldays(multi-dayholidays).Forexample,summerholidays(2weeksinJuly)orduringtheholidayseason(Dec.24thtoJan.2nd).Wecanexcludetheseholidayperiodsfromaschedulewhichwillresultintheschedulebeinginvalidduringtheseholidays.Theholidayswilloverridetheschedule.

Wewillcreatetwoholidays,summer VacationandChristmas Breakandexcludethemfromtheschedulescreatedpreviously.

ClicktheHolidaysiconandclicktheAddbuttontoentertheHolidayPropertiesmenu.Intheexamplebelow,thesummer Vacationholidaywill:

• beginatmidnightonthefirstMondayfollowingJune30,2012• Use Relative DayoptionboxischeckedandMondayischosen• repeateveryyear(occursyearly)• last14days

Thenextstepconsistsofexcludingtheseholidaysfromtheschedulesasshowninthescreencapturebelow.Intheschedule Propertiesmenu,selecttheHolidaystab,clicktheAssignbuttonintheExcluded Holidayssection.Selecttheholidaysinthedrop-downlistoftheHoliday selectionpop-upwindow.Savethemodification.Repeatforbothschedules.

Accesslevelspermitustoconfigurewhichschedule(ifany)willallowauser(cardholder)toaccessanarea.Thisisanessentialstepincontrollingwhowillhaveaccess,andatwhattimes,todifferentareasofabuilding.
