MansfieldReformatory&OhioCavernsMike,Lo,GaryandCharOnasunnyJunemorning,nineteensleekMiatascruisedtheirwayovercountryroadstotheMansfieldReformatory.TheQueenAnn-Victorianstyledbuildingwasanimpressivesiteaswepulleduptothegate.Intheparkinglottheresidentgeesepopulationhadleftusmany"littlepresents"whichmadeforsometrickywalking!Ourprivatetourguidewasreadyandwaitingforusinside.Forthenexthourandahalfwetouredthemazeoftheprisonfromtheelaboratewarden'squarterstothestarkrealityofthecellblocks.Severalbravememberssteppedinsideacrampedcelltogetafeelingofhowtheinmateslivedthere.Wewerewarnedagainstclosingthecelldoors-iflockedinsideitwouldrequirethepriceyservicesofthelocallocksmith!LunchfollowedatSteve'sDakotaGrill.Manythankstothestaffwhoservedusandgotusoutthedoorandontheroadonschedule.ThemajorityoftheafternoonwasspentdrivingtoourdestinationofMarysvilleOh.wherewespentthenight.AtonepointwecameclosetogoingswimmingwiththeMiatas.RecentrainshadswollentheSciotaRiverwhichcreptpartlyoverthenarrowroadway;thankfullywewereabletogetaroundit.WeshouldhaveexpectedthatsituationsincetheroadwasnamedRiverRd.-duh!DinneratDerDutchmanwasveryfillingtosaytheleast!Allbellieswereatcapacitylevelwhenweleft.Sundaymorningfoundusdrivingoverbeautiful,scenicroadswithviewsformilesonend.Itwasalreadyverywarmsothecoolnessofthecavernwasverywelcome.Wewalkedandshuffledalongnarrow(sometimesverynarrow)pathwayssurroundedbythebeautyoftherockformationsandthedazzlingwhitestalactitesoverhead.Cameraswereverybusy!Thankyoutoeveryonewhoventuredwithus;wehopeeveryoneenjoyedtheMiataweekendtripasmuchaswedid!!

2016NorthcoastMiataClubPicnicwrap-up. July9,2016provideduswithverywarmandbreezyweatherforthisyears'picnic.Allinallitwasagreatdayforapicnicsixtyfourmemberssignedtheattendancesheet.ThirtyeightcarslinedthegrassalongStateRoute14.Anamazingsightindeed. Justtoclearupamisconception,thiswasnotthelastpicnictobeheldhere.Weaskedifanyoneelsewouldliketohostthepicnicbecausewedidn'twanttostandinsomeoneelse'swaytohostitthisyear.Ifsomeoneelsewouldliketohaveitnextyear,pleaselettheofficersknow. ItwasthetwentiethanniversaryforMiatasattheGap,anditwasagreateventwitharecord514Miatasinattendanceand269ofthosehadtheirpicturetakenbelowFontanaDam.Notethatnoneoftheclubcarswasinthatmess,waitingacoupleofhoursforthepicturetobetaken,wewereontopofthedamtakingtheirpicturesandbeinggladthatwewerenotdownthere.Fourclubcarsattended,Bob&Becka,AlMuscutariu,theStuewesandtheVelardos.Wewerenot

alwaystogether,butweallhadfun&droveourcarsonsomeofthebestMiataroadsintheworld.WealsoenjoyedthecompanyofalloftheotherMiataowners,thebeerswap,thevendors,freelunch,freeicecreamandfinallytowrapuptheeventtheraffleattheendoftheevent.Ourraffleraisedover$2000forthevolunteerrescuesquadthatpatrolstheTailoftheDragon.We’llbethereagainnextyear,twocouplesalreadyhavetheirreservationsinforroomsattheFontanaresortLodge.Nextyear’seventmovestoAugust3-6.Pleasejoinusfor#21.
