SEQUENCE VI TEST UPDATES

Greg Miranda

Sequence VI Surveillance Panel Chairman

September, 2016

Agenda

Sequence VID test availability

Sequence VIE hardware availability

Sequence VIE: Surveillance Panel update

Sequence VIF Update

2

Sequence VID Hardware Updates

Results of test lab survey estimates the life of remaining VID hardware will last until approximately Q4 of 2016

~30 test starts remain at independent labs

3

Sequence VIE Hardware UpdatesApproximately 133 “- 02 VIE” engines remaining at CPD

At full capacity, “-02 VIE” batch engines will last approximately one year

Additional engines will be made available via short block hardware

487 currently acquired; planned for first round of distribution across labs

An additional 934 short block engine configurations have been requested

934 left bank cylinder heads available

~400 right bank cylinder heads available; ~550 still needed to complete inventory

Task force assembled to address category hardware concerns

Engine cleaning methodology (i.e. extend testing life of engines)

Establish inventory of short block hardware 4

Sequence VIE Test Ready for Inclusion in GF-6 The Sequence VIE surveillance panel informs the Passenger Car Engine

Oil Classification Panel and the Auto Oil Advisory Panel that the surveillance panel has determined that the test is ready for inclusion as an ASTM procedure.

Sequence VIF UpdateAll testing completed week of June

12th

Surveillance panel voted on 7/19/2016 to limit VIF engine life to 4 full length tests with last test starting no later than 900 hours

Surveillance panel voted on 7/27/2016 to allow Lubrizol to conduct 4 donated supplemental Sequence VIF precision matrix tests on a new stand/engine Installation of LZ engine complete

TMC stand inspection complete

Engine currently on break-in

APPENDIX

Sequence VIE TestSummary of Sequence VIE test methodology: Break In (150 hours) Stand qualification criteria: one acceptable reference oil result; additional tests required if 1st is

unacceptableRandom assignment for all three reference oils (TMC 1010-1, TMC 542-2, TMC 544)

LTMS requirements have been defined by the surveillance panelOfficial Sequence VIE calibration will start on 8/10/2016 for stand/engines that have completed calibration

testing following criteria established in the Sequence VIE LTMS document

Engine hour limitations 3 candidate test maximum (following single reference test qualification; i.e. 4 total tests per engine) Valid test starts must occur prior to 900 hrs of engine run time

Last non-reference test shall start no later than 100 days from the date of acceptable calibration

Investigating option to extend engine life to fourth candidate run Requirement to run donated 5th test on a TMC assigned RO on each of the first three calibrated engines

in each lab

9

Sequence VIE Test Update

On July 27th, the Sequence VI Surveillance Panel voted to approve the Sequence VIE test ready for inclusion into the GF-6 category:

Selected reference oils

Defined test stand referencing and calibration procedures

Reviewed precision matrix analysis

Determined reference oil targets

Finalized LTMS requirements
