CRISIS RESOURCE 21-B01
COURSE COORDINATOR >> Marcos Cagido, Senior CRM Instructor
COURSE PRESENTATIONThis course enables participants to enhance non-technical skills by complementing the technical resources developed in each health sector.
The course comes from the Crew Resource Management program initially developed by NASAfor commercial aviation. Aeronautical CRM aims to change behaviours, train and improve nontechnical skills such as communication, interpersonal relationships, situational awareness, decision making, just culture and error management in order to reduce accidents.
Gaba and colleagues transferred and adapted CRM to medicine in the 80s as Anaesthesia Crisis Resource Management (ACRM). As an anaesthetist and enthusiastic for aviation and special programs Gaba recognized many similarities between them and anaesthesia. It was thenthat emerged the concept of Patient Safety and the Anaesthesia Patient Safety Foundationat the USA.
The Crisis resource Management brings to Health Care the best practices implemented in aviation where it emphasizes the discipline of procedures, leadership, teamwork, risk analysis and decision making, stress management, fatigue, workload, conflict management, voluntary reporting culture and error management.

For these groups, simulation can convey the complexities of clinical work, and it can be used to exercise and probethe organizational practices of clinical institutions at multiple levels.
