Turbec T100 HistoryTurbec T100 History

At the beginning of the ‘80s, Volvo started the development of different gas turbine systems for applications on cars, bus and trucks (VT40 and VT100).

Turbec T100 HistoryTurbec T100 History

In 1985, two VT100 prototypes were produced to be installed on a bus. During the Paris exhibition in 1992, they presented a VT40 microturbine installed on a car.

The T100 S3, currently on production, is a high efficiency co-generation and tri-generation unit which makes possible to save up fuel. The T100 can be fuelled both with natural gas, diesel but also with renewable bio-fuels like bio-gas, bio-masses and vegetable-oils.The Turbec T100 microturbines have the advantages of a great flexibility together with a sound reliability and the reduced service schedule that make easy and cheap the installation of the unit in new or existing plants; additionally the remote control, used in every unit, makes possible to install the units in critical places.

Biogas DevelopmentBiogas Development

In 2001, T100 had not been trialed on biogas During the following years Turbec set up partnerships

with several companies specialized in biogas in order to improve its knowledge.

Basic Principles and Aims of the development were: Operate the T100 with untreated biogas Develop a reliable method of gas compression –

T100 requires gas at 6-8 bar pressure Understand the effects of biogas on T100

maintenance schedule Test the effects of the gas contaminants on the

turbine parts Ultimate objective to allow T100 to be commercially

proven for biogas applications
