Since2013,baithasworkedwith225partnerstodeliver179projects,creatingopportunitiesforpeopletotakepartinprojectslastingbetween3monthsand3years.TheprogrammeisdeliveredwithsupportfromaconsortiumoforganisationsledbyMuseumsNorthumberlandwithNorthumberlandCountyCouncilPublicHealthandCulture,NorthumberlandCollege,NorthumberlandCommunityVoluntaryActionandQueensHallArts.baitisdeliveredwithinvestmentfromArtsCouncilEngland,NorthumberlandCountyCouncilPublicHealth,TheBallingerTrustandGarfieldWestonFoundation.

GillyAngell.Mywork,overanumberofyears,asashamanichealer,deepmemoryprocesstherapist,yogafacilitatorandlabyrinthworkshopleader,reflectsmyinterestinthedivinefeminineandthelife-deathinterfaceandhasledtoadevelopingpieceofworktitledConversationsontheTransformationofDeath.

TomBaileyhasworkedforArts&Mindsforseveralyearsandisalsoafreelanceillustratorandgraphicfacilitator.HealsoworksasanartistandtrainerforPyramidofArts,whichworkswithpeoplewithlearningdisabilities.Inhissparetimehewritesandperformsinverysillysketchshowsandmusicals.

JuliaBennettistheCraftsCouncil'sHeadofResearchandPolicy.Shedevelopspolicyandadvocacystrategy,writesaboutcraftandmanagesresearch,strengtheningevidencetoimprovetheconditionsforcraft.ResearchcommissionsincludeStudyingCraft16,ananalysisofcrafteducationandtraining,InnovationthroughCrafts:opportunitiesforgrowthandMeasuringtheCraftEconomy,whichresultedinDCMSincludingcraftdataforthefirsttimeinitseconomicestimates.

JessieBinnsisVisitorExperience&EngagementManageratNationalTrust(NorthLakes),andwasresponsibleforallaspectsofprojectmanagement,coordinatingthecomplexteamsrequiredtotakelargegroupsofsingerstohighaltitude,andkeepingarecordoftheproject’sactivities.

SteveBishophasworkedinthecommunityandculturalsectorinNorthTynesideforoverthirtyyears.Hiscurrentresponsibilitiesincludethearts,tourism,museums,heritageandlibraryservices.HehasleadresponsibilityfortheHealthandWellbeingBoardobjectivetoreducesocialisolationthroughgreaterculturalengagement.

DrNeilChurchillisDirectorforExperience,ParticipationandEqualitiesatNHSEngland.Hisbriefincludesinsightandfeedback,patientparticipationindecision-making,improvementprogrammesoncancer,learningdisabilityandsupportforcarersandnationalpartnershipswithvolunteersandthevoluntarysector.

AlexandraCoulterhasbeenDirectorofArts&HealthSouthWest(AHSW)since2010.Shehasbeenworkinginartsandhealthsince1998andmanagedtheartsprogrammeatDorsetCountyHospitalfor15years.AHSWisaregionallearning,advocacy,networkinganddevelopmentorganisation.Webelievethatcreativityisattheheartofhumanflourishingandwewantmorepeopletoexperiencetheartsandcultureforthebenefitoftheirhealthandwellbeing.Weadvocatewithdecision-makersandfunders,supportthedevelopmentofpartnershipsandcollaborations,providelearningprogrammes,resourcesandnetworkingevents.AHSWdeliveredtheCulture,HealthandWellbeingInternationalConferenceinJune2017,whichwasattendedbyover400delegatesandspeakersfrom23countries.AHSWprovidesthegovernancefortheCulture,HealthandWellbeingAlliance,anArtsCouncilSectorSupportOrganisationthatlaunchedinMarch2018.AlexprovidesthesecretariatfortheAll-PartyParliamentaryGrouponArts,HealthandWellbeing(APPG)onbehalfoftheCulture,HealthandWellbeingAllianceandprojectmanageda2yearInquiryintoArts,HealthandWellbeing.TheInquiryReportCreativeHealthwaslaunchedinparliamentinJuly2017.TheAPPGcontinuestoworkonsupportingtheimplementationofthetenrecommendationsintheCreativeHealthreport.www.ahsw.org.uk

Hiscurrentresearchincludesexplorationsofthefieldofarts,healthandwellbeing.HehasrecentlycompletedanevaluationofWakefieldCouncil’s‘CultureCures’programme,andisco-writinganarticlewithTristiBrownettonartsandculturalfestivalspacesandwellbeing.HeisaFellowoftheRSA,theHEAandtheEnglandCentreforPracticeDevelopment,andanAssociateFellowoftheRSPH.

SylvieFourcinhasbeenDirectorofArtlinkWestYorkshireforoverfifteenyearsandinthattimehasrenovatedthebuildinganddevelopedworkwithsomeofthemostchallengingandhardtoreachgroupsinthecommunity;includingadultswithlearningandphysicaldisabilities,peoplelivingwithdementia,patientswitheatingdisordersandwomenwhohaveheldlongtermcustodialsentences.ArtlinkWestYorkshirehasworkedinthefieldofartsandhealthsincethe1970sandwasoriginallyknownasShapeUpNorth.WehavebeenbasedinanoldVictorianbuildingintheinnercityofLeedsfornearlyfourtyyearsservingacommunityofpeopleinneed.Weuseparticipatoryartsasatooltosupportvulnerableanddisadvantagedgroupsofpeoplethroughaprocessoftransformation.In2017SylvieundertookaprestigiousWinstonChurchillTravelFellowshipexploringartsparticipationintheUSandCanadawitholderpeople.ShehassincecontinuedtodevelopherpartnershipwiththeUniversityofBritishColumbiaandtheirworkinthefieldofdementia.FromthispartnershiptherehasalsobeenacrosspollinationofideasandexchangethroughmutualinspirationandideasandfromthisArtlinkhavedeliveredatwo-locationprojectwithpeoplelivingwithdementiausingcreativewriting,textilesandvisualarts.Wehaveusedfilmingandobservationasethnography.DrGloriaPuurveenatUBChasgainedsignificantfundingfromtheCanadianInstituteofHealthResearchtoexploretheuseofartsparticipationinendoflifedecisionmaking.Artlinkarenowapplyingforfurtherfundingtocarryoutamoreextensivedementiaandartsproject.Wehopethatthiscollaborationcontinuestodevelopovertheyearsahead.

TheHeads&Talesproject,ledbytheartcharitableorganisationChilliStudios,fundedbytheHeritageLotteryFundandinpartnershipwithTWAMMuseums,isatwo-yearprojectwhichaimsatdesigninganddeliveringthefirstMentalHealthHeritagearchiveintheNorthEast.Lookingbackthroughtimefromthelate1800son,theprojectaimsatexploring,rebalancingandcelebratingthevoiceofpeopleexperiencingMentalHealthconditionsintheNorthEast.TheHeads&Talesisaprojectmotivatedbyasenseofgrassrootsempowermentandcommunityaction,andreflectsonlearningprocessesthatcomefromthediversitywithinthecommunityitaimsatrepresenting.TheprojectaimsatenablingtheMentalHealthcommunitytobecome,toacertaindegree,self-reliantandself-sustaininginthelearningprocess.Theprojectisshapedandledbyitsparticipants,volunteersandstaffwhoaredirectlyandindirectlyaffectedbymentalhealthissues.TheHeads&Taleshasadoptedapeer-ledapproachtoenhancesustainablesocialpracticesthataretargetedtocreateinclusion.Thisprinciplesupportedby0theSteeringgroup.TheSteeringgroupismadeupofmembers/participantsoftheprojectandHeads&Talesstaff.Thesteeringgroups’aimistohelpmakesurethatthe

voiceofthoseexperiencingMentalHealthissuesareactiveandprominentintheproject,aswellastosupport,help,andshapethedirectionoftheprojectandthatitisfollowstheaimsandobjectives.

CatherineHearneisChiefExecutiveofHelixArts.HelixArtsisateamofexperiencedandtalentedCreativeProducerscommittedtoimprovingculturalandsocialinclusion.Theyareanotforprofitcreativebusiness.“Weworkwithartists,inpartnershipwithotherorganisations,tocreateopportunitiesforpeopletoparticipateinambitiousartsactivity.Weworkacrossarangeofartformsincludingvisualarts,filmmaking,creativewriting,graphicdesign,animation,streetdance,musicandDJ-ingaswellasphotography,dramaandtextiles.Weworkwithpeopleofallabilities,ofallages.”

EmmaHollambyisArtandDementiaProgrammeManageratBenUriGalleryandMuseum.Broadeningaccesstovisualartandunderstandingitsbenefit,particularlyforolderpeople,hasledEmmatobothfacilitationandresearch.

TheRtHonLordHowarthofNewporthasprovidedpoliticalleadershipforthefieldofarts,cultureandhealthfor20years.AsMinisterfortheArts,from1998to2001,heestablishedsharedpoliciesbetweenthedepartmentsresponsibleforthearts,cultureandhealthandwidenedaccesstoculturebyimplementingfreeentrytoournationalmuseumsandgalleries.HesetuptheCommissionforArchitectureandtheBuiltEnvironmenttoraisethequalityofthebuiltenvironmentincludinghospitalbuildings.NHSEstateswereresponsive.LordHowarthcontinuedtocampaignforbetterplanning,architectureanddesignintheinterestsofhealthandwellbeing,andthevalueofalife-enhancingbuiltenvironmentwasincreasinglyaccepted.Heintroducedadebateonarts,cultureandhealthintheHouseofLordsin2008,followingwhichheaskedtheSecretaryofStateforHealthtomakeclearthatitwaslegitimateforcommissionersandclinicianstomobilisetheartsinthemainstreamofNHSandsocialservicesdelivery.AdvisedbyLordHowarth,theSecretaryofStatemadeaspeechgivingstrongendorsementofthis,concluding:“Thisisnotsomekindofeccentricadd-on–itshouldbepartofthemainstreaminbothhealthandsocialcare.”FollowingtheupheavaloftheHealthandSocialCareAct2012,LordHowarthsetuptheAll-PartyParliamentaryGrouponArts,HealthandWellbeing(APPG)withthesupportoftheRtHon.PaulBurstowMPandDrSarahWollastonMP.In2015,theAPPGlaunchedatwo-yearinquiryincollaborationwithKing’sCollegeLondon,Guy’sandStThomas’sCharityandtheRoyalSocietyforPublicHealthSpecialInterestGrouponArts,HealthandWellbeing.Theinquiry,ledbyLordHowarth,involvedtwoyearsofresearch,evidence-gatheringandroundtableswithpatients,healthandsocialcareprofessionals,artistsandartsadministrators,academics,ministers,otherpolicy-makersandparliamentariansfrombothHousesofParliament,involvingover300peoplefromacrosstheUK.TheprojectwasfundedbyWellcomeandPaulHamlynFoundationwithsupportfromthe
