To Prevent Big Leaguers Coming in
In order to prevent the bringing inof big leaguers to held out base ballteams in the Blue Grass League at theclose of the season a movement hasbeen started by adopting resolutions tothe effect that players will have to besigned before they can play in anygamy after the first of September
teams to bring better players hereunder verbal contract and notthem and pay them large salaries fortheir services
The big leaguers will not sign withthese small fry as they would probably be drafted by a higher class teamand would have to go thereby doingthemselves harm by signing withsmall teams for only fifteen days Thefollowing resolutions have been mailedto all the directors and tney will notifyPresident George I Hammond whetherthey will adopt them or not The resolutions follow
Resolved That no player shall beeligible to engage in a game of
with any club a member of theBlue Grass League who has not signeda contract with the club offei ing toplay him before September 1 1909 andwho has not played at least one gamewith some club a member of saidleague on or before said date
Any club violating this provision
hundred dollars 30000 in the discretion of the board of directorsleague for each violation and allgames played shall be forfeitedopposing club unless otherwise ordered by the board of directors of saidleague

Kentuckys First QuarantineFor many years sheep scab has been
quite prevalent in the West but as aresult of the combined efforts of theFederal and State authorities muchterritory has been entirely freed andthe infection in other sections has beengreatly reduced and it is hoped thatwithin a few years more the disaesewill be entirely stamped out The present quarantine against Kentucky is thefirst time that the disease has obtaineda sufficient foothold to require a Federal quarantine
Wheat Threshing Almost DoneWheat threshing in Central

reports of the conditions show that theloss experienced through the heavyrains which de ayed threshing so longwill not be as great as was expectedDuring the early part of the season theyield promises to the record but theloss caused by rains cut it to about anaverage crop
The latest govern nr ent report on cropconditions in Kentucky says the yieldwill be about eleven bushels to theacre about an average The qualityof the grain is not extra good but owing to its scarcity during the earlypart of the threshing season a goodprice was offered for it and in some
the farmers received the bestprice they have gotten for some time
