Existing Conditions (Cont’d)

• Burlingame’s only full access to US 101

• Oldest interchange in the County - built in 1948

• Confusing and unconventional design (19 legged interchange)

• Traffic congestion and circulation problems

– 5 legged Rollins/Broadway intersection (Level of Service of F)

• Doesn’t meet current seismic standards

• Does not accommodate Pedestrians and Bicyclist on the overcrossing

Project Challenges

• Poor geological conditions – Bay Mud

• Protecting the Environment

– Endangered Species – California Red Legged Frog and San Francisco Gartner Snake

– Easton and Sanchez creeks

• Utility Relocation and PG&E power line Avoidance

• Volume of Traffic and Maintaining Traffic during construction

– US-101 has over 225,000 vehicles per day

– Over 23,000 vehicles per day on Broadway Overcrossing.
