Overview
This document describes the installation process for the BTS3900 (Ver.D) (shortened to
BTS3900 in this document) cabinet, boards, modules, and cables. It also provides checklists for
hardware installation.

This chapter lists the tools and instruments that must be obtained before the installation. It also
specifies the skills that the onsite personnel must have.
4 Unpacking Check
Unpack and check the delivered equipment to ensure that all the materials are included and intact.
5 Obtaining the ESN
The electronic serial number (ESN) is a unique identifier of a NE. Record the ESN of the base
station beforethe installation for future commissioning.
6 Installation Process
Before the BTS3900 cabinets are delivered, boards inside the cabinets have been installed. You
only need to install the cabinet and cables onsite. Some optional components may also need to
be installed based on onsite requirements.
7 Checking Installed Modules and Cables
Modules and cables in the cabinet have been installed before delivery. You need to check whether
the modules and cables are installed securely.
8 Installing a Base
A BTS3900 cabinet can be installed on a base. The base can be installed either on a concrete
floor or ESD floor according to the equipment room conditions and customer's requirements.
9 Installing the Cabinet
A BTS3900 cabinet can be installed alone, side by side with another BTS3900 cabinet, or stacked
on another BTS3900 cabinet. This section describes the procedure for installing the BTS3900(Ver.D) cabinets in the preceding modes. The procedures for installing the BTS3900(Ver.B),
BTS3900(Ver.C), and BTS3900(Ver.D) cabinets are the same.
10 Installing a PGND Cable and an Equipotential Cable
A PGND cable connects a PGND screwin a cabinet and a PGND bar to ensure proper grounding
of the cabinet. An equipotential cable connects PGND screws on different cabinets to ensure the
equipotential bonding between the cabinets.
11 Installing Optional Modules and Their Cables
This chapter describes procedures for installing the optional modules and their cables onsite.
12 Installing Cables
Before cabinets are delivered, the boards and cables inside the cabinets have been installed. You
must install the external cables and cables for optional components onsite.
13 Installation Checklist
After the cabinets and devices are installed, you need to check the installation items, installation
environment,and cable-related items.
14 Powering On a Base Station
This section describes how to power on a base station and handle a failure in the power supply
to the components in a cabinet.

2.4 Installation Clearance and Layout Requirements
During the installation, you need to plan the space for future maintenance and cabling.
Installation Clearance Requirements
Clearance requirements of a BTS3900 cabinet are as follows:
l A BTS3900 DC cabinet can be installed with its rear flush against a wall, whereas a
minimum of 100 mm (3.94 in.) space must be reserved behind the rear of a BTS3900 AC
cabinet.
l The left side of the cabinet can be against a wall. Reserve a minimum of 300 mm (11.81
in.) clearance on the right side for installing noise reduction modules later.
l Retain a minimum of 800 mm (31.50 in.) in front of the cabinet for maintenance.
l Retain a minimum of 200 mm (7.87 in.) between the top of the cabinet and the ceiling for
cabling.

4Unpacking CheckUnpack and check the delivered equipment to ensure that all the materials are included and intact.
Context
CAUTION
The gravity center of some cabinets is in the front, for example, the BTS3900AL, IBBS700T
and IBBS300T . Therefore, avoid toppling of the cabinet when the door of the cabinet is opened,
especially when you unpack the cabinet or before it has been secured onto a base.
NOTICE
l Power on a cabinet or BBU within seven days after unpacking it.
l Power on an RRU within 24 hours after unpacking it.
NOTE
When transporting, moving, or installing the equipment, components, or parts, you must:
lPrevent them from colliding with doors, walls, shelves, or other objects.

5Obtaining the ESNThe electronic serial number (ESN) is a unique identifier of a NE. Record the ESN of the base
station before the installation for future commissioning.
Procedure
Step 1 Record the ESN on the BBU.
l If there is no label on the FAN unit of the BBU, the ESN is printed on a mounting ear of the
BBU, as shown in Figure 5-1. Record the ESN and base station information.
l If there is a label on the FAN unit of the BBU, the ESN is printed on the label and a mounting
ear of the BBU, as shown in Figure 5-2. Remove the label and record the base station
information on the label printed with Site.
NOTE
The base station information includes the name, ID, and location of the base station.

8Installing a BaseAbout This Chapter
A BTS3900 cabinet can be installed on a base. The base can be installed either on a concrete
floor or ESD floor according to the equipment room conditions and customer's requirements.
8.1 Installing a Base on the Concrete Floor
This section describes the procedure and precautions for installing a base on the concrete floor.
8.2 Installing the Base on the ESD Floor
This section describes the procedure and precautions for installing a base on the ESD floor.

8.1 Installing a Base on the Concrete Floor
This section describes the procedure and precautions for installing a base on the concrete floor.
Procedure
Step 1 Determine the holes for installing the cabinet according to the positioning holes on the marking-off template, as shown in the following figure.

1. Use a hammer drill with a 16 drill bit to drill holes with a depth ranging from 55 mm
(2.17 in.) to 60 mm (2.36 in.).
CAUTION
Take proper safety measures to protect your eyes and respiratory tract against the dust
before drilling holes.
NOTE
Generally, the concrete floor is solid and smooth. Therefore, you can use the center punch to help
locate the drill bit. If the conditions of the floor allow direct drilling, skip this step.
2. Use a vacuum cleaner to clear the dust out from inside and around the holes, and measure
the distances between holes. If any of the hole is beyond the acceptable range, mark a new
anchor point and drill a new hole.
3. Tighten an expansion bolt slightly and place it vertically into each hole.
4. Hit the expansion bolt with a rubber mallet until the expansion tube completely enters the
hole.
5. Remove the M12x60 bolt, spring washer, and flat washer in sequence.

CAUTION
After dismantling the expansion bolt assembly, ensure that the top of the expansion tube
is level with the concrete floor. Otherwise, the cabinet cannot be installed on the concretefloor evenly and securely.
Step 3 Install the base and level it.
1. Place the insulation plate and the base on the floor in sequence. Align holes on the base
with those on the insulation plate and those for inserting expansion bolt assemblies on the
floor. Insert four M12x60 expansion bolts into the holes, and partially tighten them, as
shown in the following figure.

2. Measure and level the base.
Place a level on the base and observe the position of the mercury, as shown in the following
figure. If the base is not level, use leveling bolts to level it.

3. Use a socket wrench to fasten the M12x60 bolts in a diagonal sequence to secure the base
on the floor, and tighten the bolts to 45 Nm (398.25 lbfin.), as shown in the following
figure.

Step 4 Measure the insulation between the base and expansion bolts.1. Set the multimeter to the megohm scale (M).
2. Measure the resistance between the leveling bolt and the expansion bolt, as shown in the
following figure.

l If the resistance is lower than 5 megohms, the base is not insulated from the ground.
Go to Step 4.3.
l If the resistance is higher than 5 megohms, the base is insulated from the ground.
3. Remove the expansion bolt assemblies and check whether the insulation washers are
missing or damaged.
l If yes, reinstall the expansion bolt assemblies and re-level the base.
l If no, check whether the multimeter works properly and whether the setting is correct.

Procedure

1. Use a hammer drill with bit 16 to drill holes at the anchor points. The holes should penetrate
the ESD floor, as shown in the following figure.

CAUTION

2. Use a vacuum cleaner to clear the dust inside and around the holes. If the inter-hole spacing
is too wide or too narrow, locate and drill holes again.
Step 3 Position the support.
1. Place the support under the ESD floor. Use bolts to fix the support to the ESD floor
temporarily, as shown in the following figure.

2. Use a ruler to measure the distance between the concrete floor and the lower surface of the
ESD floor. Adjust the support to a specified height based on the measurement result, ensure
that the top of the support is leveled with the lower surface of the ESD floor, and use a
socket wrench to tighten the nuts on the support to 45 Nm (33.19 lbfft), as shown in the
following figure.

distances between the holes are consistent.

Step 6 Remove the bolts that are used to temporarily fix the support instep 3.a.
Step 7 Install the base and level it.

on the ESD floor. Use a socket wrench to fasten the M12x80 bolts in a diagonal sequence

9Installing the CabinetAbout This Chapter
A BTS3900 cabinet can be installed alone, side by side with another BTS3900 cabinet, or stacked
on another BTS3900 cabinet. This section describes the procedure for installing the BTS3900
(Ver.D) cabinets in the preceding modes. The procedures for installing the BTS3900(Ver.B),
BTS3900(Ver.C), and BTS3900(Ver.D) cabinets are the same.
9.1 Installinga Cabinet Without a Base
This section describes the procedure and precautions for installing a BTS3900 DC cabinet
without a base on the concrete floor. BTS3900 AC cabinet should not be installed without a base
on the concrete floor.
9.2 Installing a Cabinet on a Base
This section describes the procedure and precautions for installing a BTS3900 AC or DC cabinet
on a base.
9.3 InstallingCabinets Side by Side
This section describes the procedure and precautions for installing two BTS3900 cabinets side

Context
To facilitate operations, you can remove the cabinet door and then install the cabinet.
Procedure
Step 1 Take the marking-off template out from the position 3 U above the bottom of the cabinet, and
determine the holes for installing the cabinet according to the anchor points on the marking-offtemplate, as shown in the following figure.

6. Remove and dispose of the cushion collar. Then take out the insulation washer from the
accessory bag and put it on the expansion bolt with the flat side upwards, as shown in the

Step 3 Move the cabinet onto the installation holes, place the expansion bolt assemblies into the holes,and partially tighten them, as shown in the following figure.

Step 4 Use a level to check the levelness of the cabinet, as shown in the following figure. If the cabinetis not level, adjust the leveling bolts.
NOTE
Screwing the bolts clockwise will raise the cabinet, and screwing the bolts counterclockwise will lower the
cabinet.

9.2 Installing a Cabinet on a Base
This section describes the procedure and precautions for installing a BTS3900 AC or DC cabinet
on a base.
Context
To facilitate operations, you can remove the cabinet door and then install the cabinet.

l Install a BTS3900 DC cabinet on a base.
1. Stand the cabinet, place the cabinet on the base, and push the cabinet until its rear
aligns with the rear of the base.
CAUTION
The cabinet is heavy so that two persons are required to move it.
2. Use a torque wrench to secure the two M12x50 bolts in the front of the cabinet to 45
Nm (398.28 lbfin.), as shown in the following figure.

BTS3900 (Ver.D) AC cabinet should not be stacked.
Procedure
Step 1 Remove the screws and connection plates from the top of the lower cabinet, and install themounting blocks on the top rear of the cabinet. Then use a socket wrench to secure the bolts to
45 Nm (398.28 lbfin.). as shown in the following figure. The mounting block is delivered with
the cabinet.

Step 2 Remove the cover plate from the top of the upper cabinet, as shown in the following figure.

Step 3 Place one cabinet on the top of the other cabinet, and push the upper cabinet until the two cabinetsare aligned in the rear. Use a socket wrench to secure the front two M12x55 bolts to 45 Nm
(398.28 lbfin.). The following figure shows the BTS3900 cabinets installed in stacking mode.

10Installing a PGND Cable and anEquipotential Cable
A PGND cable connects a PGND screw in a cabinet and a PGND bar to ensure proper grounding
of the cabinet. An equipotential cable connects PGND screws on different cabinets to ensure the
equipotential bonding between the cabinets.
Context
The following table lists the specifications of a PGND cable and an equipotential cable.
