Five Ways to Begin an Essay

Hook- Click, click! That is the sound I heard as I was

walking down the sidewalk in front of my house. Suddenly I found a penny that I will always cherish.

Conclusion- I think of that penny often when I am walking on my sidewalk. It was a discarded penny, but now you know why it is a cherished coin.

Onomatopoeia Example

Have you ever found something really interesting?

This is the story about a time I found something that changed my life.

Turn and Talk to your Table and discuss a good two sentence conclusion.

Question Hook

Have you ever found something really interesting?

This is the story about a time I found something that changed my life.

(Example Ending)

Clink, clink. That is the sound of that penny going into my bank. That penny changed my life and I will keep it forever!

Question Hook
