Here is to constantly learning and
improving!
Have you ever noced what happens
when you think you know all there is
to know about a subject? You stop
learning, and that means you stop
growing as a person, a professional, and in our case, a publisher!
Think about itwhat would happen
if I, an award-winning editor and Eng-
lish professor by training, thought
that I knew all about grammar and
sentence syntax? I could argue that
Ive spent more me than most stud-
ying the English language. But you
know what would happenI would
cut myself o from ever geng
beer. Im not a perfect editor, so Iknow that when the opportunity pre-
sents itself to learn more about our
language, I take it!
Saturdays CIPA meeng is all about
the mistakes we make as publish-
ersand that includes both book
producon and markeng. There is
sooo much knowledge in the room at
any given CIPA meeng. We decided
to ask some of the best publishing
minds in Colorado to come an give us
their insight on what works and what
doesnt according to their experse
and, more importantly, their experi-
ence!
Dont let this amazing opportunity
slip by because you think youve
been there, done that. We can al-
ways improve. We can always learn.

CIPAs October Meeng
True confessions me, authors! Publishing is a mine-
eldand everyone who has published a book has made
at least one blooper.
Here are just a few of the mistakes weve made:
Contractedwith a vanity publisher who over-
chargeduson everything
Didn't thinkweneeded an editor
Designedthe coveror the interior ourselves
Had the teenager down the street design our web-
site
Started markengourbook 6 monthsaerit was
published
All hope is not lost! Mistakes are how we learn, get beerat what we do, and be more successful!
Join us onOctober 18 for a panel discussion: Publishing
Bloopers: If Only We'd Known. Our stellar panel of pub-
lishing experts will share their war stories of their own
publishing journeys as well as the "rescue work" they've
performed for clients (who shall remain anonymous).
If you haven't published your book yet, you'll learn
about some of the major pialls and how to avoid
them.
If you've already published your book and made a
few mistakes, you'lllearnhow to correct them.
